DIM is a separate program for installing manually downloaded content packages that was downloadable from Daz's web site.
More recently they've published a newer tool called DazCentral, but many users seem to dislike it (i haven't even tried it yet).

This page has some more detailed explanations:

and this sticky post in the forums is also good to understand the process of manual install:
https://f95zone.to/threads/how-to-install-content-to-daz-w-w-o-install-manager.6045/
Thanks I will give it a look and bet it will help thanks again, and I do have a couple of things from here to install manually

In Daz, the objects in the scene pane can be arranged in a heirarchy of Parent->child. Children's position in the 3d space will move with the parent - that is, their coordinates and rotations become relative to the parent.

If you have the model already selected in the scene pane tab when you double click the hair asset, it should be auto-parented to the model in the scene, so when you move the model the hair goes with it.

If the hair is not parented, it will stay where it started.

You can also select object in the scene pane, right click, and choose another object to which is should be parented.
I will see if I can do it... This may (DAZ 3D) be a trying hobby for an old fart :) Thanks again

what is the best way to combine characters in a scene?
I am using for example a ready model of POSE of a couple, but still they still have errors of union! The Characters are the same height and size percentage 96%!
1.jpg

I know you can adjust it manually, but I would like to know a faster and more practical way! thanks

This sort of preset "couples pose" would only work for the specific character versions and morphs that is was created for. If either character is modified (with a morph or a manual slider change i.e. height or arm length etc) or if you used a G3M when it was meant for i.e. G8M then the hands will no longer align.

Even if you have all the above things already correct versions etc, then if you already applied any other pose it might interfere with the new pose. So first make sure you zero out all other poses before applying the couple's pose.

It would be nice if you could somehow "magnet attach" the two separate character's hands together and magically have the wrist and finger joints move so there is no collision or unnatural angles... but that technology does not exist in Daz.

So the only was to fix is manually.

Remember if you are only making a render from one camera position, any collision etc is only a problem if the camera can see it, so get the visible front surfaces correct and ignore the back/inside of the grasp.

Well Shit I screwed the work plane up again :( I was trying to rotate a foot and lost the work space it went transparent and now I see nothing there. That is with Filament (PBR) I think it is. I see other modes like IRAY,wireframe etc but not what I think is the most common to use (just above IRAY)
How do I reset back to useable. I did try the window/workspace trick to get it back but nada zero no-luck
The image is there I can see it in the Aux-view and as the mouse passes over the different parts of body the yellow/amber hi-lite color shows up and can select, but cant see what I am doing or trying to do if ya know what I mean

I have tried the different workspaces and same thing cant see what is in scene, but do sort of in Aux plane little window I can use the shaded/block and wire perspective or view just not the Filament PBR selection. I think what I was doing was using the ball in upper right to rotate and the mouse of course was on some other area when I released it and then was where things went sideways and disappeared on me. Still lost

Is there like a "Reset" function or something to take the software back to when first installed. And then they need a "Don't Fuck with shit" button also for people like me :) but I guess that is how ya learn though, well for some that is maybe not in my case :)

does anyone know what kind of male genitals are used by Dr. PinkCake (BADIK), PhillyGames (City of Broken Dreamers) and Dr. Sin (Midnight Paradise) and Pegasus Smith (HQ Au Nature)?

You don't have permission to view the spoiler content. Log in or register now.

Because I'm using Dicktator or even the original DAZ, but the textures are very bad, with distorted appearance even if the rest of the body or the scenery image is in high quality!

Is it possible you've got the viewport "perspective view" located behind or inside an object? or really far away from the centre?

Try selecting an item (lie the g8f figure) in the scene objects list, and then use the "frame currently selected items" button.

you could also try switching from Filament viewport mode to "Texture shaded" or even "wireframe" to see if the object geometry is still visible.

Thanks I haven,t tried that yet, the image is still there somewhere as I can see the scene in the Aux view. I can see the figure with texture shaded, but no floor or floor ref ( the squares for reference ) even when clearing the page and starting a new one. With the one that it all started on there is like a invisible outline of that the cursor would be over but no image.
I think I should find a job breaking software. I seem to be good at it. :)

Eureka I think I found something!!!!!!!! I was once again playing with buttons and settings and doing things one at a time and watching the display and then undoing what I had done. Then found that in "Draw Settings" and "Draw Avatar" was off. On turning it "ON"...... BINGO the Floor Plane is back. I really don't know just how I turned it off in the first place, but it was some how.
Ya have to remember that I am lower than a "Newbie" :) and not to mention a Pain in the Ass, but I keep trying.
My dad told me a little over 60 years ago that I could break a ball bearing, I think he may have been right......

OK here is another question.

With the stock and really limited assets that come with DAZ the included scenes don't have extended sky or some sort of background, and if you go to far to one side or the other or back away there is black areas to the sides with no apparent fill in for sky etc; Is there a way to fix this? I am looking for different scenes to add to the library, but not finding a lot to my liking :) so far. The library is another question coming right up.....

Now for a Library arrangement naming question.

I have downloaded a few extra assets and have installed them manually per instructions by copy and past to a folder location, and it seems to work. My question is can the location be changed to another name that actually means something to me Ie; the golden place genitals are not what I would use, and the sub directories are seemingly useless and deep just to find the genitals for G8F. Can you move the folder up the 8 or 9 empty folders and rename it to whatever you can remember and shorten the path that many sub folders.
Instead of something like this:
C:\Users\YOUR NAME\Documents\DAZ 3D\Studio\My Library\name of asset\folder\folder1\folder2\folder3\folder4\folder5\folder6\folder with contents

Can this path be shortened to something like this:
C:\Users\YOUR NAME\Documents\DAZ 3D\Studio\My Library\name of asset\folder with contents
or
C:\Users\YOUR NAME\Documents\DAZ 3D\Studio\My Library\pussy\folder with contents

In my limited way of thinking that would make it easier to locate in your "My Library" directory

It is complex to rename folders this way and indeed almost impossible. To have an asset you need to have a script that loads the assets and resources that are the actual content of the asset. For some reasons, resources must be in specific locations for DS. Morphs must be in a subdir of the "runtime" directory as they are loaded when you launch DS. Other resources (objs, textures) are generally in a subdir of the "data" directory. They could probably be located elsewhere as they are loaded on demand, but, and it is the main problem, the script that is used to load the asset must know where there are. So if you change their directory, you must also change the scripts and that is the main problem.

It is possible to create a "pussy" directory somewhere and to paste you zip in it. DS must know the location of this dir and this can be done with the "preference" menu entry. But the access of the ressources will be similar and the golden palace scripts will be in "pussy>people>genesis 8 females>anatomy>anatomy" and it is probably not what you want.

Indeed, what really is important is the location of the asset for the DS user, not its position in the windows file system, and both are uncorrelated. You can put any of the scripts at any place in the "DS hierarchy". By default, IIRC, golden palace scripts are in MyDAZLibrary>people>genesi8 females>anatomy>golden palace, while the content is probably in data>meipe>something and in a similar subdir of runtime (but you have no direct access to them from DS).

You can definitely change the locations of the scripts. So if you want to create a subdir named "pussy" and have the scripts in "MyDAZ3DLibrary>pussy>golden palace", it is definitely possible. Open the "MyDAZLibrary" folder, create the subdir and move the golden palace folder. Then RightClick>refresh in the content library and this subdir will appear in DS.

You can rearrange what you want this way if you are not happy when the default location.

Though, this is *not* something that I would advice you to do. Managing assets is a major problem in DS. Files are written in many locations and, while adding an asset with cut and paste is simple, removing it is a real nightmare. That is the reason why the install manager is very handy. It keeps track of any thing you install and makes uninstalling simple. There are some programs that can create DIM files from any zip and this largely simplify if you want to remove assets later (see for instance https://f95zone.to/threads/content-package-assist.8420/ or ).

But you must be aware that you cannot change the locations of the scripts and let them remain managed by DIM. If you move a script directory, as I suggested above, DIM will no longer be able to remove the asset properly (as it does not know its new location).

So how to manage properly assets? I have no definite answer and every user as his means. Smart content can help (a bit) if you use it, categories are interesting, but creating and managing them is time consuming, there are some assets that are supposed to help in this organization, etc. I started by rearranging data as I mentioned (for instance create a subdir of clothing with "dresses" or "lingerie", etc), but this was an error and I spent a long time undoing this organization. Now I keep the initial location and I use a text file that gathers all the information on all the assets that I own (description, location, but also a link to the original page, eventual useful forum entries on the use the assets, personal comments, etc). I am happy with that, but I am not sure it is the best way to proceed.
