There is probably a better chance that hell freezes over than anyone knows this. but if you don't ask you'll never know.
so i'll take a shot in the dark.

Do anyone know of a proper control rig for c4d that can be used for genesis 8. models?

I am re-targeting some animations using a character definition tag and character solver.
and life would be a hell lot easier with a proper rig.
I was looking at he character module in c4d and i noticed it has a built in a rig for Daz characters.
I believe this is a genesis 2 model?

However this rig is not particularly good.

I then took a look at the Maximo control rig c4d has. Its very well implemented.
I was thinking about modifying this rig to fit daz 8.1 characters.
That was until a saw how the rig is built up.. i am like what the hell..

So much going on in that rig. scripts, constraints and what not.
It would take me forever to make something like this myself.

The Daz bridge has the option to autoIK/Rig but this rig too is not good. and has serious performance issues.
To the point that its useless to use. not sure what they where thinking when they made that rig.

So if anyone knows of a good control rig i can use in c4d for genesis 8. i would really appreciate it.
believe me i know your pain. Not in that exact context, i dont have c4d, but ive tried making a daz rig in 3ds max and just got frustrated after wiring 50 parameters and some of the bone root positions were slightly off. Make matters worse, I still havent figured out a working export workflow, fbx always has reference coordinate system issues and obj cant do timeline anims

yes. fbx can be tricky at times. when i import daz fbx files all the joints/bones usually have a local and global rotation of 0,0,0 (in a-pose) This can be realigned. by disabling the skin.. use a realign tool, update the pose and enable the skin again.
However this can result in other issues. example if you try to do this on an anim.. things will be messed up.

Left Arm realigned:

Result when starting the anim.

Realigning works fine if you are making your own anim from scratch (at least in c4d).
But i just leave them joint/bones as they are.

I guess you have something like it in 3ds max to realign. but know its pros and cons when using it, as you may get into more trouble :p

Anyway..guess i need to get my hands dirty and make my own template for a rig. was hoping to avoid that :)

I've only ever seen one other dev mention using C4D, but they ultimately ended up moving to Blender instead, so they probably never got this deep with it.

I'd imagine you might have more luck with a C4D-centric subreddit/forum, but even that might be a challenge.

If such a process or template doesn't currently exist, you could probably sell a tute video or something. Might make it a bit more palatable.

Sell it to who? the other guy on this forum whom uses C4D :p
" i see the opportunity to make $10 " :p

Retareting animations isnt something new tho. there are multiple methods for doing it.
But with out a control rig its a bit tedious to edit animations imo.
I can convert to the mixamo rig, however if i do that i will loose all the facial bones and some others.
So that is not something i want to do.
i am already working on my own script to create a rig. its a slow process tho.

but the process/workflow i am doing is basically the same as shown in this video.
I might share my script tho when i am done with it.

What does it mean when the Genesis 8 model load up with a dent in the Pec area? Bad morph or Daz itself?
Unless there is some morph working there, it appears as though you have use meshgrabber or something like that.
If so, you could enter that mode and reset it. It might fix it.

That or there is a smoothing mod and some invisible thing pushing it, idk. lol

They already suggested meshgrabber (in that case, check you have not forgotten meshgrabber active, in any case, you can try reactivating it and telling it to reset the changes) or morphs, but about morphs, remember also to check for hidden ones, and to check in the used morphs category in the parameters when you load the figure - sometime "parasite" morphs are not even hidden, but if you have too many, it may be difficult to see them in the full list.

I do have a lot of morphs, switching the parameters to "Show hidden" was one of the first things I did. The Mesh Grabber is new one because I don't even use it. I'm going to uninstall it anyway, just to be safe.

It's almost certainly a rogue morph. Mesh Grabber will never do something like this on its own.

If the morph isn't even showing up then what are the options besides manually uninstalling everything until I find the bug?
You're just going to have to sift through the "show hidden" (under the "Currently Used" option) until you find it. If this is relatively recent, I suppose uninstall the morphs/models recently installed might also do it. Though far more tedious than just doing it via Currently Used.

I ran into that with the Erevan and Demona. They would apply at 100% by default, so if you look for used morphs, you would not see it.

I tried searching the list for anything at 100% that was not highlighted, but I had so many morphs and shit installed that it was neigh impossible.

What I ended up doing to figure it out was to send a character to a friend and find out what was missing.
If you want to open a blank character, save that as a scene, and post it, one of us can look at it and see what happens.

Thanks for pointing that out. Many this is the universe telling me that I have too many Gen 8 morphs. Because whatever it is, it's not showing up even with "Shown Hidden" checked.

That's the worrisome part. I've already checked the currently used tab with the "Show hidden" tab checked and still haven't seen anything out of the ordinary.

The only solace I can take from this is that whatever product is causing it is still very much on my PC.

Good luck.
Like I said, if you want to load an empty scene, and a base Gen8f, with that issue and save it, You can upload that scene here, and one of us can take a look, see if we can see what is trying to apply itself.

Also, if everything else fails, there's a procedure that should reset one generation of figures (Genesis 9, G8M, G8F, etc.) to their default state. I used this method once soon after I started using Daz and it worked perfectly in my case. But be aware that I've also met someone in these forums that claimed that in their case it only made things worse. So if you apply it, don't blame me if something goes wrong.

Easiest way to handle these;
1. Load your base figure or the developer version.
2. Zero the figure
3. Memorize the figure
4. File->Save As->Support Asset->Save Modified Assets
This procedure will zero the default value in the ill-behaving morph.

Original post by PerttiA on the Daz forums:

In case it's not clear, when PerttiA says the base figure or the developer version, he/she means the base Genesis figure (the Genesis 8 male, female, the Genesis 9, etc.) or the developer version of them.
