Ok I'm here to give my opinion about the discussion and I have 5 points I want to address:
1- The whole "alpha" "beta" does not apply to humans and never well. Take a generic "alpha" type the athletic confident jock Chad and put him in a room full of socially awkward nerds who happen to be scientists discussing "Quantum gravity" and see what happens, do you think he would be the alpha there? spoiler alert NO.

2- The people making insulting everyone who does not like the game and make fun of them for self inserting and getting worked up over a VN, you are doing the same thing by getting angry and worked up over comments, at least they did not insult anyone.

3- The problem with MC and Cathy here is that it's called "A Knight's Tale" so the MC being the center of the story and the one making decisions is the right thing not because he is a "man" but because he is the MC, imagine playing a female MC VN and the husband is the one making all the decisions and the wife/MC is going along with everything he says, that would be just as bad.
Making fun of everyone who expects the MC to be... well the MC is ridiculous. I have yet to see a movie, tv show, book or game where the MC is not the center of the universe of that story.

4- The fact here is the MC has no opinion of his own and he follows everything Cathy says so their relationship is not equal at all, she starts all the sexual acts and all the new relationships, hell the reason she pushed the MC to sleep with Alice is so she can have an excuse to sleep with Lydia(she said so herself) so she just used him and fooled him to get what she truly wants Lydia. The MC is lucky she actually loves him and wants him to be happy because she could easily get all the girls and give him nothing if she wants.

5- Last point is that I have a problem with MC outside the bedroom too. I know people here say he is not a pushover, he is just "laid back" and he doesn't have to be assertive but that's a lie.

He is a push over and you can see that from the beginning when he was forced take Alice under his wing even though he did not want to. He is one of the greatest knights in this universe, he is supposed to be assertive to some degree and strong willed but he is neither and on top of that he is a lord of his own castle so he has to be assertive or how would anyone follow him?

MC is put into unnecessarily unconfortable situations like you said there, he is no diplomat,
he is a knight, he is action, he is alpha.
Well .. guess what: just like PTSD Irak/Afghanistan/Coreea/Kuweit veterans IRL USA, he would be done 4.

MC is the alpha out of his depth here, so of course, he is cunning enough to listen and take it upon himself to
follow those he feels have his best interest at heart, like in any couple, 2 against the world, fairy tale couple.

There is nothing wrong with Cathy.
#4 is so wrong. They have a loving equal relationship. We are all entitled to our own opinions no matter how wrong they seem to others.

But I will never understand the need to hang out and facepalm and comment repeatedly in a thread of a vn that you (royal you) don't want to play and don't enjoy?

My response to the above....

AmeHST has a very good point in his (1).
The way I see it, the MC is the muscle, not the brains.
Yes, he may be one of the best if not the best knight of the kingdom in terms off physicality and the Knight's code (whatever that is). But upstairs in the brain department he is lacking.
Hence the wife doing the thinking and him doing what a knight does best, follow orders.
Honestly, for me the whole alpha/beta thing doesn't bother me. It's everything he does outside of the bedroom that's making this game a disappointment.
