Looks like it's some kind of graphics driver issue. Maybe try restarting your computer? Also do any other renpy games launch or is just this one broken for you? Did you try re-downloading?

Are you 32-bit or 64-bit? I noted that you are running Windows 8, not 8.1 or later. Either of these two (32-bit and Win8) could be the baseline problem you are having with some RenPy games.

Also, I did a google search for the error and it seems the few times it's noted is that it appears on RaspberryPi.

I know in some communities even having 64-bit or Win10 is still cost prohibitive. If you are running 64-bit, have you considered a USB Linux OS to run your games?

It always forces me to choose between "gl/gl2/ angle/ angle2' renderers. but whichever I choose, nothing works.

I don't know. But Win8 is an old OS that hasn't had updates in almost 6 years and only about 1% of reported Windows users run it. But the age of your OS is a good sign that your hardware and drivers are getting past prime, as well. This could be a video card issue, video driver issue, etc. You can give Linux a shot on a USB drive to see if you can get some longer life out of your system ... but best of luck.

It always forces me to choose between "gl/gl2/ angle/ angle2' renderers. but whichever I choose, nothing works.
I'm now leaning much more towards you have an outdated graphics card and/or drivers:

This is the conclusion I came to as well. All those RPI errors you found were due to bad graphic drivers so it stands to reason he's having that same issue on windows. I am not a windows user, the last version of windows I used was 7 so I don't really know how to go about troubleshooting this but if there are multiple RenPy games that break on his system, then it's not an issue with this game but with his setup instead.

I assume that either the PC doesn't have a sound card, the sound card is disabled, the sound card is not functioning, there is a conflict for the sound card, or some other reason the game isn't recognizing the sound card.

EDIT: You could try to add to the start of options.rpy file:
Python:
init python:
    config.debug_sound = False

Ah, I don't have my speaker plugged in, that is probably it. Interesting error, never had that before. Does this game actually have sound or voice?

Any news or update on ETA for progress to next level with Petal? For me its the most anticipated update of any game on this site.

I still find it a bit weird how Petal has constant body-issues with showing her boobs, while in the last part she is swaying them like a shameless, aged stripper would.

It's a bit weird 'porn-logic', but nothing that hampers my enjoyment of it. I look forward to the next instalment.

I disagree with you.

Porn logic dictates that girls behave strictly according to the "stairway to heaven" progression, like e.g. in DmD.

Petal, on the other hand, behaves quite in-line with her character. She has quite specific hang-ups and fetishes, and it seems that when she get's over a certain hang-up, she's really over it.

I like that kind of story telling. It feels more realistic with the added benefit of making it much less predictable, compared to e.g. DmD.

Porn logic, to me, pretty much means: as long as it leads to sexy times and fast. Like the Pizza guy giving extra sausage and those kind of things.
I don't know what stairway to heaven is, but I'm guessing it means: slow build-up, stretching it out and milking Patreons over a longer period of time, since that is what DmD was/is. And Petal's character is just more my kind of porn logic then that kind of thing.
It is fun and decently written, but nevertheless still 'porn logic'; if she so easily gets over her body issues, she would not have formed issues in the first case. People just don't get over themselves that easily IRL, xcept in dumb porn scripts they do :p Don't try to make it sound like it it's some kind of good character build-up or break-down, it really isn't. Petal jumps the shark and I'm totally fine with that!

I don't know what stairway to heaven is
The stairway to heaven is the progression kissing => handjob => blowjob => vaginal sex => anal sex, always in that exact order, sometimes with steps in between like thighjob / footjob etc. Often every step takes one monthly update ;) It's a staple in most games, especially incest games with a limited amount of love interests.

In reality, some people start with anal sex and never get to the blowjob phase, or the other way around, based on their own hang-ups etc. Other people are convinced to stay a virgin but turn into nympho's after losing their virginity. But I think that following the stairway to heaven exactly is very uncommon IRL. In my opinion Petal does a pretty decent job in depicting a more realistic way how such a relationship may progress, but you may, of course, have a different opinion.
