Winterhowl Progress Update
Good afternoon,
It is getting dark outside once again, which means the week is almost over and it's time for another weekly update.
On Monday, I started by fixing remaining issues from the 0.6.1.5 update. I had already begun working on those last week, but since the fixes turned out to be more extensive than expected, and additional bug reports from before the update came in as well, it took almost all of Monday to resolve them.
On Tuesday, I then fully started working on the Sabrina scene. Of course, the most complex option out of all the choices ended up winning.

I was initially unsure whether I should even include it as an option, since I knew I could not implement it properly without adding additional context first. However, since it received the second-highest number of votes last year, I felt it was only fair to offer it again.
I began by updating Sabrina’s skin texture, which I had last worked on years ago, to bring it in line with the quality of other female characters. After that, it was necessary to rework her dialogue images, as many facial expressions were missing and I also wanted a consistent look with the new dialogue images I created for her winter outfit. I also created a new sprite set for that outfit.
That covers the graphical preparation. Next came the story context. I started by having Sabrina properly introduce herself to Athia. After all, the two had only met once before, and not under particularly good circumstances.
Once that event was written, including four slightly different dialogue variations depending on whether the player rebelled against Gwen and whether Sabrina drank a certain potion or not, I moved on to working on another small scene with Sarbina, that I felt was necessary to add to make a conection for the winterhowl scene. I worked on that scene until just recently, editing images, rendering backgrounds, and writing dialogue. But it is still not completely finished. I hope to complete it in the coming hours before the day is over.
Which means that I have not even started working on the actual Christmas scene yet. That is a problem, because next week I realistically only have two full workdays. From the 24th until the end of the week, I will be spending time with my family and don't plan to work during that time.
I am therefore currently considering how I can still release something next week. What is certain is that the complete scene will only be finished in the week after Christmas. Unfortunately, that cannot be avoided due to the scope of the scene and the lack of prior context, that I now added.
However, I could at least release this first scene, which is nearly finished now, by Tuesday evening, together with a few smaller adjustments and additions. That would result in a reasonably rounded update, and I could then add the remaining part in the week after Christmas. It would certainly make me sleep better if I knew I released at least something in time for the holidays.
I assume that for many of you today was already the last working day before the holidays, so I would like to wish you all happy holidays and some well-deserved time to rest and celebrate!
And of course, I wish you all
a nice weekend!
