I'm not a lawyer, but my understanding of current copyright law (in the US, at least) is that L&P doesn't have to formally submit any copyright documentation to have legal protection over his IP, such that any of this is his IP. The average developer is unlikely to take any legal action--in part because it would cost more than it would be worth and it would publicly reveal the dev's identity--but that doesn't mean people could outright steal AWAM and not be violating L&P's copyright. In a legal challenge, L&P would simply have to prove that he created AWAM and then demonstrate that someone else was ripping off his IP.
Interesting. Well, L&P is currently in Switzerland and I'm not in the US either. But truth be told, I've got no clue if that changes anything. Laws over there might be similar. Guess I'm a criminal in that case! :p

alright, so I like to inject some questions into this thread and change the usual convos you see in here for a bit.

Let's say hypothetically speaking, you somehow end up with the complete IP rights to AWAM, you have everything, all the 3d assets, Ren'py files and written scripts you need to continue AWAM yourself.

What are the first few things you do?
We know (based on LP claims) that the story is already written for the total period of the game (30 playable days). It means that all the various routes are there already (e.g. if Aidan is stopped by Don Morello then…). I understand that “the Twist” played a vital role in his original writing and he tried to change it since his Patreon subscribers didn’t like it at all. If I was LP I would re-write the Dylan/Sophia LI having in mind that Dylan is:
- Either my little boy who gradually becomes a man and my feelings grow stronger with time.
- Or the little pervert who likes to see mommy interact with other men (the infamous cuck route).
By any means I wouldn’t make him a second MC. Total waste of time. After fixing that I would check what’s the main reason for slowing down the progress and try to address it.
- Complexity of assets used. Hire an expert.
- Story over-detailed. Reduce the unnecessary parts (e.g. side jobs, Emma, etc).
To make more sense in terms of gradual corruption I would remove the 30 days counter and extend the timeline. If you want to have some sense of realism you cannot expect a conservative wife and mother to become a super slut within 30 days after 20 years of a relatively stable marriage because her husband is overwhelmed with work responsibilities for one or two months… The maximum I can expect in that case is an ons with a total stranger. Otherwise there’s missing narrative…
- what has been Sophia Liam relationship in the past few years?
- what makes Sophia feel horny in general?
So far LP has demonstrated that Sophia and Liam are deeply in love… It doesn’t make any sense at all that out of the blue she becomes a slut.

If however we say “fuck realism” then make it a proper porn game, shorten the updates and let Sophia fuck someone already…

How do you know that the "twist" had a decisive role in the game? I ask this because L&P himself wrote that it was not important for the Dylan/Sophia path.
As I understand it, or interpreting this statement, he didn't have a reasonable resolution for this "twist" within the game, L&P just believed that this betrayal of Dylan would "fade away" in the course of the game.
If you have other, better information, please share it.

Since the game is not copyrighted (except for certain assets with brands&logos L&P is using illegally), nobody has to wait for any rights to create or continue their own AWAM if they wanted to (see Pixil's fan project).

That said, if I had everything you mentioned, I'd likely contact one of the developers around here who I know are capable of creating similar quality of art and ask them if they'd be interested in continuing the project while I'm getting a small percentage of the profits from Patreon. Small percentage because I'd be doing jackshit all. I'd also want to be in charge of said Patreon incase the hired artist turns out to be L&P 2.0 in regards to their character and development processes. If that was the case, I'd likely tell my Patrons that it's game over, thank them for their continuous support, scrap everything and blame the artist for the projects downfall, at which point this L&P 2.0 would likely continue on their own using the assets I provided them with.

That would bring us back to where we are right now, so I say fuck it. Full circle! :ROFLMAO:

Dude, just hit up with those fan made games of AWAM. One thing common with all those fan made is the quality of renders especially of Sophia. None of those look like the one from the game but more like a rundown version of her. So if u can create that then just join hands with Pixil or interbladecard and go for it. I will fkin become your high tier patron.

I have another advice too, If they ignore your message or say no then why not make your own. There are fanmade games for AWAM but there ain't one for JOHN. That game is too going the same direction as this one so if you manage to create a fanmade that is equal to the quality of Stoper's and give the content people want then for sure you are gonna end up being successful since there isn't any competition there in terms of fanmades.

I didn’t say I have information about the Twist. I just understand from the discussions here that it should have been a big thing. Anyway, the story is slowing down or is going at a slow pace because:
- LP has a tendency to put too many details in the updates
- LP has created more than necessary routes
And since he has already written the script he needs to go through it and reshape it.

My understanding is that L&P's statement that removing the Twist wouldn't really affect the plot was really just an excuse and shouldn't be believed. Much like the recent discussions about how we shouldn't believe his claims about creating a game with realism or class.

The addition of minigames, and how haphazard the dialogue is now (just based on my observations of the comments here) shows that he's changed the fundamental nature of the route, going from sex ed and corruption to this "romance" route. That L&P has gone from his original story of corrupting Sophia until she's broken, to actively engaging the M/S fans and doubling down with Dylan as a 2nd MC, even though originally Liam was the 2nd MC.

For me the reasons why the development of the story is slower and slower:
- after 6 years L&P is burnt out,
- he didn't manage to professionalize his work,
- because he might already be working on the Steam version for profit optimization.
L&P himself wrote that he realized late that the development of the game will not be a sprint but a marathon. At the latest then he should have worked on distributing the development to several people. I don't question that he tried this, but how seriously he tried this.
(I know that this is not easy, there were also contributions from other developers (e.g. Oceanlab)).
For me, the attention to detail and also the many ways the appeal of the game and are not the reasons for the foreseeable failure of the game.
For the above reasons, the proposals are this all to steam are only the attempt to an already almost dead horse insert a gold tooth.

Possibly this was an excuse, but it's the only comment I know of from L&P on this. That it is a lie is only your guess at the moment.
But that's the frustrating thing about L&P's comments anyway, they remain ambiguous and you always get only a piece of information.
When exchanging information with L&P I always have the feeling that he is more interested in stalling the discussion.

You are quite right. This falls under intellectual copywrite laws much as any artistically creation. The copywrite owner just need to prove that at some point you viewed his work.
But this is a very broad and open legal statute and unless the owner is making millions or you are, it is often placed under the fair use clause.
Not a lawyer either but we have a few on staff to stop our designers from infringing on copy protected works.

The fact he has better hardware doesn't mean the renders will look better. They will only be rendered faster. If you want better looking renders you have to put more effort and knowledge within the scene creation process.

A powerful rig alone isn't what's making L&P's renders look high quality. It's the scene creation itself using very specific settings/lighting + postwork (photoshop) that makes his renders stand out. The hardware used determines how long it takes to render high-res images for the most part, but hasn't that much of an impact on the quality. You can basically create the same quality of art using a 1080ti instead of a 4090, but render times are much longer and you're running out of memory quicker, meaning your renders can't be as crowded, for example.

Edit: roro was faster. :(
