June Status post - and little Sneak Peek - (Spoiler Warning!)

Hello everyone. Happy June.

First of all, where did all the time go? It feels like it was only just a few weeks ago that we decided our plans for this year, and now over half a year later, we are still working on them. You can‘t imagine how frustrating it is for us as developers, but must certainly know what's it like as players and supporters, of course.

Anyway, enough pity talk for us. Let me fill you in on the current status of the Redux and the immediate plans for Amity Park. Let‘s start with the good news: the top supporters should be getting the new update for Amity Park sometime in a month, guaranteed. We believe it'll be in June, but let's just give ourselves some extra wiggle room and say the next 30 days. But, that's the plan, and we're sticking to it. Huzzah!

The bad news: we did not get everything done that we had been planning, since the list of improvements, features, and scenes just kept getting longer and longer. Ideally, we would have liked to improve every scene, every background, and even some of the existing character models. Unfortunately, the time required to get it all done would simply be longer than we'd feel comfortable making you all wait for one update to a visual novel porn game.

So, Team Bieno has decided to simply wrap up our current work on the Redux Update for now, and focus on getting it out to the fans. We've gone long enough without showing you all what it is we've been taking so long to do, so we think it's only fair we just clue you all in. The remaining content/features from the Redux put to the side we will still be implementing in the future, but they will simply be introduced case-by-case in subsequent releases.

After the release of the Redux, we are planning to immediately continue the work on Episode 8, the Jazz and Spectra focused episode. Luckily everything is already planned out for that and you should not have to wait anywhere near as long as you did for the Redux version, we promise you that

Nice pic but who is it suppose to be?

Certainly not the Paulina I was hoping for. Once again when artists decide to make improvements to their designs, the improvements make it less appealing to folks that liked the originals.

While I agree with the others that it is not as close to the original art, I like it a lot. Much sexier, I can't wait to see more of it. (y)

My personal opinion? I don't really get the objections, I think the image looks sexier overall and I like the shading and styling Psymind does with his portrait work. I don't think the Stephen Silver look exactly translates to adult content perfectly, I'm just not personally into it. I'm more of a Summertime Saga/Space Rescue type of guy. I like the direction these are going in more than the original ones we had that looked more blocky and flat. Again, just personally, that's the way I feel.

But I am curious as to what people think is *so* off about these models. I believe it's the face, no? Those eyes are a vastly different type of style. That's where I would have to sorta agree, that if we could sorta fuse the quality of art with the facial stylings of the original show, that we'd have a match made in heaven.

But otherwise... I'm personally fine stretching my imagination a little bit, it's just stylized for the h-scenes. Again, not trying to be defensive of the choices the team is making, just speaking for myself, as I usually do. I'd love to hear everyone's thoughts on this. Civil, of course. ;)

Also an addendum, one we forgot to put into the post:

Team Bieno is officially done with MEGA.nz as a site to host our game. Our false termination a month ago put a bad taste in our mouth. We will be doing all of our work through Google Drive at this point. Thank you.

It's not that i dont like, it's just i'm used to seeing her in her original style.. once we receive the update i'm sure it will grow on me (y)

I also think there's definitely room to go "Hmmm, maybe if we change x,y,z elements in these still image designs going forward, we'll have a good mix of what we as the devs want as well as the fans" in the future. We don't know how we need to change or alter things until the Redux comes out, and get people's general thoughts. Then that reception will definitely shape the work we do in Episode 8.

While I am sure there are a variety of reasons, one of the bigger ones is the fact that a lot of people just don't like change. Had you started with this style, you would probably be getting almost nothing but praise.

I have to say, I am pretty impressed with it, it's quality work.

While I am sure there are a variety of reasons, one of the bigger ones is the fact that a lot of people just don't like change. Had you started with this style, you would probably be getting almost nothing but praise.

That's definitely true. I think people's good impressions with this game from the start, when it was all just GZone and his talent alone, was that it *was* so close to the original style. I definitely feel the next Team Bieno game, having assembled a real crew and learned a number of things since one guy started out drawing, writing and coding everything by himself... it'll all be more cohesive from the jump. (y)

This is objectively higher quality art, IMO lol. I would have zero issue with this if it was the art from the beginning, but it just feels weird you're going away from art that looks so much like the show to this more anime style art. I would have zero issue with this if it was the art from the beginning, but it just feels weird you're going away from art that looks so much like the show to this more anime style art. It's simultaneously an upgrade and a downgrade, which makes it a side-grade and those are always going to come down to opinion.
Definitely understand that issue, GZone and I have always just thought the art produced early on solely b,y him needed changing to better serve the pace of the story, as well as our personal preferences and taste. Once the redux is released, we'll have a huge collection of feedback to work off of.


I'm just glad you guys are finally going to be able to see what we've been wanting to do with the game, at least in general. And then faster episode production, thank God.

I'm glad that the team decided on an earlier redux version. The feedback from the patreons will be pretty important! If it ever shows up around here, I'm sure I'll give my review!

Regarding the art rework... let's compare it with the same scene from the current update (and her normal sprite).

The new art:
Hair seems to be longer, which is a plus for me :p
Has better body proportions and coloring
Background looks better
The ectoplasm effect feels better

The only 'minus' I could give is about the eyes. DP's eyes are one of the trademarks of the show. The new eyes don't look similar to the show's... and that's a pity. Those drawn by the artist look great, but they aren't really DP's eyes.
The art set looks like a serious improvement from 0.7.5. Is it possible to ask the artist to do a sketch of Pauline with the show's eyes? That would allow us to compare with the ones he/she made.
It's great that the artist kept the pointy chin! Another important trademark from the show.

Regarding the art rework... let's compare it with the same scene from the current update (and her normal sprite).
I should also mention that this scene now has three unique shots/angles, and not just a static image that just has its clothes layer removed. I think the scene looks more alive when you see how Epadder coded it and Psymimd drew it.

In my opinion, for what ever its worth, it is a parody of a very well known show and people come to expect it to be close to the art work from that show. I found that I prefer pictures that closely follow the original designs. Maybe that's one of the reasons why "Something Unlimited" is so popular. It does follow the original character designs.

And the idea that that style isn't very...............sexually appealing I strongly disagree with.

So while yeah, I do think the example images provided are good examples of how the style can be effective, I don't think our artists are the type to do it like that. I'd agree with you, if I wasn't already familiar with these guy's styles pretty closely.

I think the majority of the people on the team are in agreement that an ideal scenario would have been if Amity Park had had Psymind from the jump. But there's no turning back that clock, sadly. His style is definitely what I'm going to want to incorporate if GZone lets me direct my own game for Team Bieno in the future. I think he's very versatile.

The character models that are pre-existing haven't changed. GZone thinks having Psymind redo every existing portrait would have been too much even for the Redux. You'll notice that with new character's like Valerie and Ishiyama, they actually have a little bit more detail and design to them, but that's because they were made by Psymind design-wise. But they don't stand out like sore thumbs.

The aesthetic was definitely probably gained from the post nostalgia romanticism of the "Goth Girl" renaissance a few years back.

**Also thank you, I had to use a lot of reference material and sculpt a believable format for Danny's school, and still incorporate what we already had. AS well as places had very little or nonexistent reference material, such as the Astray household or some of the new locations you'll find in the Fenton Household...
