having now tried this game:
  • install using the included .bat file worked fine with a brand new installation of Python
  • running the game after installation using the included .bat file worked fine
  • as others have stated, character creator states "something went wrong" when trying to save a character
  • game itself seems pretty barebones, but it seems good as a game engine

Installation method aside, I definitely see the Era game inspiration. Will watch this one cook for a while.

I have tried pyinstaller but I am unable to get the game to run. Just sites on the agree screen. So I am unsure what is going wrong. I am also not super knowledgeable with python.

Here is the spec file for running pyinstaller .\main.spec for building the exe

You had it right but you entered python. If that happens and you see 3 >>>, type quit() and hit enter.

You just need to be in the game directory and then run python -m pip install -r requirements.txt
Then run python main.py

I really really like the idea of this, I feel like there are a large number of ways this could be improved because the concept itself is really great.

  1. For one, the actual character creation could stand to be improved. While I wasn't actually able to save a character (It just kept saying "something went wrong") a quick glance at the files suggests that it's just a json file and an image file. So maybe something native that allows us to upload a set of images for that character could stand to be helpful. (aswell as fixing the whole, actually saving thing.
  2. Secondly, while I wasn't personally bothered by having to do the whole python assembly thing, it definitely presents a barrier to people who really aren't gonna do all of that. Free Cities had the same issue to me.
  3. Could just be for me, but I'd like it if there was a way to maybe make flavortext type relations to another character, like if I wanted to make a set of sisters it would be nice if the game could recognize those two characters as sisters.
  4. after I went to sleep everything broke.... kind of annoying.

This isnt a jab or anything, just wondering for time sake. is the current state of the game just character creation and then that interact screen in the previews?

Step 5 says: python pip install -r requirements.txt
But in the gif you uploaded it says: python -m pip install -r requirements.txt
i dont know if it makes a difference just something i noticed.

For people unfamiliar with the command prompt, to open the folder you want on the cmd on windows you can replace your folder path with "cmd" and will open on that folder. So you won't need to do "cd 'C:\...\[your game folder]'"

Rather than an inspiration, this is a straight rip of Era mechanics, from traits to character interaction to actions to NPC movement patterns.
WHY would one try to reinvent the wheel by remaking era-kanon engine in python is, frankly, beyond me, as its not even like you actually need to remake the engine to add graphics (as Era-SumireTeru, Era-AzureLane and Era-AkumaMaid prove). It makes sense as a coding practice project, but not as something to design patreon around.

im not using the main account for my pc for safety sake but a side access account. Is there a work around or wait until a workable standalone executable appears?

i downloaded python with the the file not save on the main C drive.
