It's before school starts up again, the end of summer, and that gives him another 5-6 weeks to polish stuff up.

I think the Dev doesn't want to release a version that will not fulfill everyone's expectations.
After showing the quality of the images and some gameplay videos I think that everybody has high expectations and an early release without substancial content will only dissapoint not only his patreons but the community in general after such a long time.
We'll just have to wait.
