Gonna say I still love incest games but only if they're written that way, it's the initial focus and not tacked on trend hopping. A game doesn't have to have incest content for me to like it, but if it's there I want it to be a priority and something that was a focal point for development beforehand.

I like it as a taboo thing that I'd never actually do, or ever did, in real life. Not that I didn't think about it occasionally. A hot sister doesn't (didn't) help. Neither did it help that, at about 13 or so, I got a good look down the front of my mother's dressing gown. I so wanted to grab those breasts but if I had, I'd have probably got a smack around the ear from her and a kick up the backside from my dad and been disowned. I wouldn't necessarily say I'm tired of the genre in general. But the settings and scenarios and motifs are getting rather outplayed--most of the games in this genre aren't very distinctive in terms of the story and content.

The genre has been very... iterative for a while, and for the most part: Young guy living at home with hot milf mom and sister(s), maybe throw in an aunt somewhere. Sister is probably sexually inexperienced and naive. Mom is probably sexually unsatisfied. Aunt is probably a more dominant personality and a cougar. MC watches them in shower, masturbating, and proceeds on a commonly regurgitated progression sequence of lewd interactions until he finally fucks them. And that's basically the blueprint for a large portion of the incest genre.

Like how many different ways can you remake this? Some authors at least try to come up with additional plots woven into it, or give their story a particular twist of some kind. But it's like no one wants to construct an incest story that diverges from this kind of basic blueprint for some reason.

Tired? No. I don't play them. Exceptions may be games that have an optional incest path that I avoid.

The basic story is getting a little dull. Oblivious Mom, bitchy older sister and naive/inexperienced younger sister.
I have ideas for my own VNs and have a couple written out and even storyboarded... it's the work in DAZ and learning ren py that has me intimidated and I keep putting off actually doing anything.
I'm trying to motivate myself to make a short and simple game with minimal characters. What I'm thinking is a Mom/son story where the son is moving away to start college. Mom/son drive to new city and set him up in an apartment. Because of the covids it's just the two of them but Mom wants son to have a college experience and so she buys some beer and they get some pot. Smoke and drink at the apt. I'm thinking of ending the game with the Mom having given son a BJ and that's all.

I 100% know you're not gonna stop there once you get there.

renpy can be a breeze if you just limit yourself to a strict VN form. show images with text, and NOTHING more. nothing clickable, no free roaming, no UI. just text over images, it's basically just you writing dialogue and adding "show momtakesshowerimage01" etc between the dialogue lines. choices are almost as simple, also basically just lines of dialogue after a "menu:" text. that's it. nothing to worry about. no real coding required.

the complications come when you try to do more, even very basic functionality. so keep it simple and it's basically just you writing dialogue. any big ideas you have for functionality, save them for your next game when you know more. failing that is the #1 reason people get lost in coding complications.
