I can't agree with you more, even though i have to say that incest is one of my favourite kinks/fetishes.So I've been lurking here a bit and I thought I'd give my thoughts on the whole situation.
From what I can see in the thread there's a lot of people who are tried of the same plot lines being used over an over, not incest specifically, I.E. Young dude suddenly realizes that his family members are hot and makes it his life goal to fuck them all.
This was pretty fun for a bit, I remember playing Big Brother when it first came out and despite the horrid writing i enjoyed the game.
But as time went alone I slowly realized there was nothing else to the game, the only goal was to have as much sex as possible, that gets really old really fast, at least to me.
When I first started making my game (around a year ago) I had next to no plot, it was just this dude who wanted to sleep with his sister, just like a lot of the other games out there. The thing though, is that this actually works, but only under certain conditions. Having good art, be it renders or drawn will draw in huge audiences, if you then introduce a lot of story there will be a lot of people who will be upset because they just want to fap and be done with it. These are pretty much the most popular games out there. I like Dreams of Desire because they actually attempted to make a plot and not just a fuck fest, though it seems to focus a lot more on the sex than the story. One of the most successful in balancing this line I think would be Dreaming of Dana, which I like a lot, though I haven't played the full game.
Here is the issue at hand, making a game that you can enjoy from an erotic perspective and also from a story perspective is really tough. I've done my best to make this happen, but inevitably there will be some issues.
One of the things that I have seen around the forum is that there is a great divide between what type of game people like. Usually it's the games that focus on sex that wins the majority, then there's the other half which likes the story based games. I too can enjoy the games that focus on sex, but what I really missed in almost all the popular games was a story, something to look forward to other than "maybe I'll see person x fuck y in the ass today".
So in short, most people like the games with a lot of sex, the games with story are very underrepresented. I just think it's a matter of time before we see a game which combines the two in a truly successful way (I'm trying but I don't think I'll be a $10k dev anytime soon).
Also to the topic at hand, no, I'm not tried of incest, it's a fetish like all the others. Being "tried" of it would be really odd. It's as if someone who likes big boobs would suddenly not like big boobs, it makes no sense to me.
I feel like there are a bunch of problems coming together and that kind of makes this atmosphere, of course people have different likes and dislikes, but you have devs trying to cash out with "incest" games with no content whatsoever and the same storyline over and over again even when incest really isn't a "necessity" for their plot, and it could work better without it. This leads to an excess of shitty incest games, and people who are on the fence about it get tired from it and peace off, and it's not that incest games are bad, but there are so many shitty games with our without incest (not to point fingers, and less in an early stage, but try games like after class, no incest whatsoever and it has to be one of the worst projects i've ever seen, basically plot is you're a teacher getting fired so you'll want to fuck every one of your students, awful renders, even worse writing). It's fine that people don't enjoy incest and they should have games that better fit their kinks. However you have the market at work aswell, where you don't have, say, ntr games (or at least big ones) because most people either don't care for it or heavily dislike it (just using it as an example, it could be scat if you don't agree with my ntr view).
Then you have the different opinions on story progression, say that you have an original idea that most people like, some people want sex scenes on the 2nd update, and that usually leads to it being a shitty game again, but if they don't comply they usually don't get the same amount of support. Overall I think it should come down to devs sticking to what they enjoy creating rather than what people want/expect from their games, there will always be someone who likes where you're heading, as well as people who can't stand your game.
Also very off the point, but you also have devs pushing updates every week with good renders and good writing just for fun, they start racking up 10k a month and suddenly updates take 3 months for the same or less content, same or worse render quality. That's why I have issues being a patreon for bigger teams, once they're good off, I fear they'll start to stretch it out to milk what they're doing as long as they can. Would rather see new devs asking for suggestions/constructive criticism/renders rather than wanting to fill their pockets
