I, for one, don't really think the sequel is better. There are more things to do, more dressing options etc but for some reason I can't explain I still like AA1 better.
For whatever it is worth, you no longer need to install mods in AA2.
The community made the AA2Mini system, where everything is integrated. You just download the Mini, download the AAU and put into the Mini folder.
Then you download the mods and put them in the Data folder. Done. No installation required. Just putting things into folders.

Oh yeah I'm aware of that being a thing, I just haven't gone back and gotten it yet. Still I would like to get AA1 fixed because if that game is suffering from the lap then that means it'll affect the other older Illusion games as well like AG3, which I also can't let go of.

Giving an update on the issue I was having a couple weeks ago... it's gone. I don't know if it's due to upgrading from Windows 10 to 11, or the NVidia Driver update which were hours apart from each other on the same day, but I decided to try AG3 on a whim and it was running just fine again so I decided to give AA a shot and everything is going smoothly there as well.
Try using the linked Mega to this post, it work for AA and some of the other older Illusion games.

very unaccurate instructions i don't know if this person just sucks at giving installation instructions or is just a liar because i have followed the steps just as it was said but all the data files through the installation of disk 1 failed with a neverending of failures contained popup and most importantly the popup was in japenese and i don't know that language so im just assuming it failed because all the options on the popup seemed like total failure to me
anybody knows any lings to mods or character cards for this game? Sutch a shame that HF is down.
Can you explain how you got it working? I put the d9d9.dll in there and it fixed my framerate but dissected the models into horrible abominations.
I like how one of the pics used in the OP is from the sequel.

The fact the sequel also has a mini version shrinking it to like 3Gb compared to the full size is amazing too

As much as I want to get back to AA1, I'm very scared of how modding would be such a hassle thanks to HF going down, I just redownloaded AA2 couple days ago, apparently it's AAU/AA2MINI now, never remembered that being a thing and I've been trying to put card databases there and god smite me it crashes everytime I add a new card, and downloading requirements for each cards are just so much work because apparently everyone loves mega, now I gotta wait 3-5 hours thanks to the download limit, so I want to ask a question is modding AA1 is also this much of a hassle? If not I might just throw AA2 into the dump and get back into AA1

I had an experience last night which felt straight out of an internet screamer (to me anyway). It was late at night and I was playing through a save I had spent the most time on. So I do 15 minute intervals for the first three periods, and half an hour for the last, and due to fatigue from the day I was starting to nod off. As my vision was blurring I remember seeing a group of students altogether before almost falling asleep when suddenly I hear a scream which jolted me awake and a red screen where a school should be. "Welp," I thought, "I wasn't expecting somebody to get murdered this far in." As I'm waiting for the screen to load to see exactly who it was bit the dust and their murderer, the game crashed!
Funny thing about AA though, even if you don't save your game, if certain things happen like say a girl confessing to you but you shut the game down like immediately after, then when you return to that particular save then the event is almost guaranteed to happen again. So now I know somebody is doomed to die, and I have no idea whom it'll be and when it does happen again there's a chance I may crash again because my game as a whole has been funky in recent weeks, but that's another topic altogether.

Yep, I called it. Whoever died before my game crashed got killed again when I replayed the save. I actually bothered to open up the save editor and cross reference names to figure out who my two former classmates are. Can't recall who sat where, but the girlfriend had Evil as a trait so safe to assume she killed her boyfriend... or ex.
