The game runs fine on Linux, but you're going to need to install MS Core Fonts on the virtual drive you're using. This is a problem with the default font in Unity games in general. If it ever gets a native Linux release and you're not seeing any text, MS Core Fonts is usually the issue. Steam Play should also be able to handle it but I haven't tested it.
My impressions: very fun. I'm unfamiliar with auto-battlers, so this was a new experience, and I lost my first two runs, but it was pretty smooth sailing after that. I might be ready to advance to a higher difficulty. There are only a few things that bug me about the gameplay so far:
- Limited randomization. The enemies seem to be the same on every run, or there are incredibly limited combinations for each level. There needs to be more variety, and there needs to be some more mix-up on enemy quantity and enemy abilities. This doesn't seem too hard mechanically, but adding additional art might be problematic. This is the number one feature I'd like to see, outside of more girls/interactions.
- The UI is rad looking and adds to the vibe but functionally fails in a lot of ways. This has a few sub-points:
- The massive oversized frame around the screen could be toned down a little bit. It can be distracting.
- It makes the cool character art for the girls (and boy) smaller and hard to see. The fact that you seemingly can't revisit the various outfits in the gallery later is also a drawback. The assets are there, use them!
- The stats below the sprites are easy to deduce but as far as I know, never made explicit. Knowing what each box represents is down to memory. Please make some kind of health/attack icon. I'm not colorblind but this probably would help with red/green colorblindness too. Win-win.
- I should be able to click and drag an item from the shop to the person I want to equip it on and have it automatically bought. This is how that interface element feels like it should work, especially because there isn't an inventory so any item you buy will always be going directly to a character.
- If you're going for a specific build you should be able to pick leading character and ability before the new game starts. This is to avoid repeated resets for tryhards.
- There should be a screen that has an ability overview for all of the girls. This was hard for me to personally keep track of, and the problem will only balloon in scale if the game grows. I'd rank this over a proper scene gallery, in terms of importance to the polish of the game.
- The lack of an actual scene gallery is annoying but the game is short enough and has enough replay value that I'm not hurting too bad for it. My biggest issue is that the way new scenes are introduced is clunky, because they're hidden in a button in a pop-up submenu. I get that this improves the speed of things if you're skipping the scenes, but there really should be an option that plays all available scenes in order between the combat phase and strategic phase that I can enable if I don't want to have to remember to check on them manually.
I'd compare the way scenes are done to Spiral Clicker, but more sexually explicit. Short, minimalist, to the point, immersed in the particular quirk of that character, and designed to be repeatedly viewed. I appreciate this. You might not come back to it immediately, but I can see this being the type of game I regularly revisit and don't mind playing from the very beginning.
I'd like to stress that I love this product to death. It needs a bit of extra polish for things like gamefeel but otherwise is incredibly excellent. I haven't noticed any of the performance issues other people have mentioned and I'm running it on a mid-to-low-range rig on the wrong operating system, so I can't corroborate.
For a porn game: best of the best. For a 1.0+ release indie game in general, I don't know if it's there yet, but the fact that I'd even consider it on that scale should tell you something. It needs a bit of polish that I'm not sure will come to it. Eagerly looking forward to the next update, and if I stop being broke sometime soon Apollo is near the top of my list for patreon subscriptions. Give it a shot.
