Because unless you set it up perfectly the first time, it's harder to correct mistakes, or make the moves that you can't preset (Especially with the view bobbing causing your placements to go higher than you intended).Why is that a problem? I think there was a single situation in a single level where Kai-Lemming was not stuck in a safe place while i "setup" the route. You keep collectibles across death too.
Or put another way, i found the bar and the battletoads (chase) minigames much more stressful.
This is a porn game. Not a traditional RPG or similar.
Collectible keeping cross-death is convenient, but ultimately unimportant, as you'll eventually be capable of grabbing them all at once in a single run without mistakes if you run the same scenario enough times (Or on the first try if you pay more attention and tediously plan things out 10 moves ahead).
