You know the saying ''Good things come to those who wait''? That's the case in this game, I'd just like to say really well done and thank you to YummyTiger on creating such an intricate game with such nice artwork. God knows I wouldn't know where to begin

ok so, i'm playing the game and "finished" the lida's quest. i want to know if that is all you can do in the current version because if not, my game bugged. i can't get back to the village because the goblin say that we are done going to the village today, and i can't go outside because the goblin say that his house in the other way, AND when i try to go to his house, he say that we need to talk to some people before nightfall... so i'm stuck. if there are more content to play, anybody can share a save with me?

I made a promise to myself a long time ago to play this game only when it's finished, but I broke that promise today after reading mostly negative comments about the game; how there's nothing in it, it's short, etc... so to see for myself I decided to play the game a bit.

This isn't an attack on YT, these are just my personal thoughts about the current state of the game. I must say I didn't follow the game production of this game for a long time so I'm not aware of all that drama people are mentioning. All I know it's been a long time since the development of this game started and I just wanted to see for myself the current state of it.

I played the game for about 30 minutes and this is my review of it.

The story seems great even though dialog at times is a tiny bit too much. Right off the bat, I didn't like the random encounter of the enemies. Personally, I think mobs running around the map which you can avoid would suit a game like this much better but this comes down to personal preference. I played the mines part of the game without any problems. I managed to get to the first village and then the troubles started. I don't know if I did something wrong, but I got stuck so many times. The scene where you visit the cathedral kept popping up every time I went there and it bugged my game. I loaded my game, continued to play only to get character graphics stuck on the screen after some event and I couldn't remove it from the screen. I went inside the clothing shop and that grandma sprite was stuck on the table but you could still talk to her and the scene worked fine I guess. I managed to finish the visit everyone in the village quest and returned to the goblins house to sleep. Next morning, I accepted the quest to go outside the village to gather something(flowers?) and that innkeeper's daughter joined the party and all hell broke loose. I don't know what happened but the whole game got bugged as hell. I couldn't enter the goblin's house, when I tried to enter, a message kept popping up that I need to visit villagers even though I did that the previous day. At that point, I just gave up.

The game surely has problems, not graphic ones, but programming/coding ones. Maybe he fixed most of the problems I had by now but for this amount of playtime, it is too buggy. I can't say why there are so many bugs, but my bet would be it's because as YT said, he keeps going back and rewriting, editing and changing existing scenes and events.

I don't know just how long of gameplay there is from the point I gave up so can't give any thoughts about the development time/content, but the game so far looks pretty amazing, the story is engaging but the bugs pull the game so much down it prevents you from fully enjoying it.

I dont understand why you guys keep on debating this topic. It's dead.
Clearly YT only goal is to keep on fueling his adiction to seeing others debate how bad he his with deadlines. It's like a drug to him, it's the only viable explanation for him to only have released something that isnt more than a small demo in 3 years.
And by debating on this topic I've come to the conclusion that we're all drug dealers to him.

So lets just stop talking about him and forget about this game. If by a miraculous rainbow pony fishy miracle I am wrong, then in about 3 years we'll have Chapter 1, otherwise in 3 years we will still be debating about this.

I'm out o/.

we need to separate creativity and knowledge.
it seems he have problems with the code, and sure is, when you are stuck, you lose motivation and momentum, everything else, the creativity gets stuck in limbo until the code is resolved, and this can take months, because coding is damn hard to do and boring. he need a programmer and move to MV (as vx ace is bad) and im sure everything will start to flow. i mean, i started a project, first time with any rpgmaker and MV, it took me 1 week to figure it out, and under 1 month i already created custom scripts to run animations and use an external text/script-reader (to allow real-time typing without the need to open mv editor) and a few other custom scripts. so, whatever he need, it is possible to create, if he only have a good programmer. he can focus on story and art and thats it. to go solo you need to be really good at "everything" plus great determination and discipline.

@kR1pt0n1t3 - Wow, not really sure how it was that buggy pre-chapter 1. I really must have fucked something. There are not supposed to be random battles at all. ALL battles are done via map sprites that you can dodge, and none of those are even random. I've hand placed and hand set every monster party in the game. I disabled the entire battle system in the last release because it was in the middle of updating/finalizing to finally include battle-h. In doing that, maybe I somehow initiated random battles, not really sure how though. I'll check into the church scene as well, there was one bit where it gets hairy in that I tried to make it doable to go to church before talking to Drake an still have the ending work. Maybe I messed that up. The chapter 1 stuff is shit and buggy though, as I tried to put something back in place after having a hissyfit and deleting a bunch because I felt it was shit, which is comical since the buggy replacement is even more shit.

@MasterQ - Thanks for your support. I don't take any of what you say as a personal insult. You've been with me a long time, and I appreciate it. I hope the next release starts to rebuild some of the faith you've put in me the past 3 years. Thank you.

I've got a question - there's actually a few images in the original post of this thread that aren't in the current release - right? Are those old or promotional images? Where did they come from?

Promotional images off of YT's Patreon, I'd imagine.

They're teasers of CGs that will be in chapter 1. Some are battle-h stuff (like the panty tease), others are parts of quests. I've released about 20 of them over the years, in an effort to show that despite the lack of releases, progress was getting done.

Got the same bug. I can't even go to pick items for lida's quest because I can't go any where after got out of village except going back in village and then bug happen. it seem the game repeat event when they just arrive at the village, when the game force you to talk to everyone.

I hope you don't mind me opening the game in the editor.
You say the random encounters aren't supposed to happen but they're set on the map.

Same thing goes for the Zalran Mine 1-B map.

This I think is the problem why people keep getting bugged after the prologue.
Once you exit the town you keep getting teleported to the map of the Zalran Outskirts C1 (Map14) which I think is map only for prologue. There is also another map Zalran Outskirts C1 (Map32) which I think you planned to use for after the prologue and the player should get teleported to. So basically you need to put if its prologue teleport to map 14, and if the prologue is over teleport to map 32. The easiest way to fix it would be to set variable 3 on chater 1 intro map to 1 and then add new event after the first one on the xroads map to teleport to map 32 if variable 3 is 1+.

I'll start playing the game from the start, but this time I'll keep track of the times I get bugged and will then go recheck in the editor in hopes of helping you get rid of all the bugs. If you got anything against this, just PM me and I'll stop this.

EDIT:
In the prologue map of Lida's Shop you should edit Ev017 and remove that reference comment because it loads the sprite of the event it called hence why you get two sprites of Lida. An easy way to fix is to just copy the text line from event 4 to event 17.

EDIT2:
After the 2nd Lida's shop event(this is the event where Lida asks you to get the flowers) the pictures of the characters stay on the screen because you forgot to call event 4 for Alyia and call event 30 for Kira to remove them. Adding Call Common Event 4 and 30 at the end of Ev024 (2nd Tab, above Call Self-Switch A) on map Zalran Proper C1(Map039) seems to fix this entirely.

EDIT3:
On Map 012 - Zalran Xroads - C1 you forgot to set up Event 8 tab 3. Because of that, there is no arrow indicating to the player he can move to that area when he's on the gather the flowers quest. This might be because you didn't finish this yet probably.

Thanks so much Kr1p! After reading your first post, I immediately went in and removed those random encounters. They were an artifact from using a random encounter system in the beginning. I had random encounters disabled through a switch, but I kept them just in case I went back. Kind of forgot about it, and when I rearranged switched/variables to organize the game better for the long haul, I must have reused that switch or something. Or, I just skipped the event that flipped the switch at some point. They're gone.

The 3 edits are now fixed. Thank you.

You don't have permission to view the spoiler content. Log in or register now.
don't exaggerate, a normal person that works full time on a game could port YT's prologue within 1 week over on MV. Also scripts are easier to make on MV.
The guys from kaliyo were able to port a large ass game from VX to MV, and it probably had 20-30 times the content of Aylia's Story.

The only reason I would never do anything in MV is that I think the tiles and character sprites are ugly as fuck. I prefer the way tiles look in RPG Maker XP the most. If somehow I could make a game in MV look the same as XP then I would use MV and only then.

I'd take that bet. In fact, I'd bet $1,000 you couldn't transfer Aylia's Story with all the functionality of even 0.11 in a 40-45 hour work week. Currently, Aylia's Story contains:

Custom classes with precisely defined growth, completely custom skills, completely custom items, weapons, and armors with tagged graphics. Custom enemies and defined parties. Custom states. Over 100 common events, over 500 map events, many using a VX scripts. Over 200 switches and 40 variables. 59 custom scripts, 12 of which have numerous changes to the script itself, and 4 of which are completely unique to this project. Over 100 unique assets in the resource manager,

I'd be leery that you could even copy-paste it over and get it working with default shit in 40 hours, but I guarantee you can't get it ported with all the functionality it currently uses in VX Ace in a single work week. Most of it wouldn't be hard to do, but it would definitely be time consuming. I guess if it were possible to copy/paste entire maps including events, that would help immensely, but I don't believe that is possible. You couldn't even copy/paste individual events, meaning you would have to manually recreate every. single. event. Shit, that alone would probably take a week.

Go ahead, prove me wrong. I'll even pay you $1,000 if you can do it in a week. It's win-win for me, since I wouldn't mind using MV as I'd much rather have 1024x768, and the highres dll for VX Ace is buggy as shit.

Most of those are merely dialogue during exploration for minor interactions. Common events range from moving dialogue busts on screen, to multiple map interactions, to scene variations, variable changes, etc. The game only has around 12 graphical "events" in the 0.11 release.
