[As from Patron it is safe to say production of this game was started before January 3 2015 so it has been in production for 4 years]

It's funny that people like using the games take lots of time, money and people to make a game excuse when there are hundreds of examples that this is untrue. (Though I do know that some games are hard to make.)
Here are some examples:

Dust: An Elysian Tale: One person made this in 3.5 years.
Cave Story: Made as a hobby took 5 years. (the developer made every part of the game their self)
Banished: 3.3 years.
Braid: 3 years.
Stardew Valley: 4 years.

Some of these were made with next to no money.

@Heff_Wulf: My question to you would be why am I beholden to produce the game with any time restriction? Why can't I spend 20 years to slowly create the game I want? If I were regularly charging people, then I'd see the argument that I should meet certain time requirements in order to justify taking money, but I'm not. I've literally never taken money for Aylia's Story.

I get the release date issue, and I'm sorry for giving out release dates and missing them. That IS frustrating. I've given 1 release date in over a year now, and I unfortunately missed that as well. So, I'm not just giving dates all the time anymore, instead I'm just working on it from time to time with a goal to get a release finished.

As it is on patron then many will criticize it.
If it's going to take 20+ years, then you will not need a patron, there for many would have no ammo to fire at you for not making your game in the time line they want.

if you do want to take it slow in making a game then do that, no need to have a timeline or dates for release or posts for that matter ignore the community for the most part and many will be surprised if something is released.

If you do need money for what your doing than donations thought PayPal is an option, though I am not a expert on that matter.

Example

If you abandon the game for now many would not talk about it as much, that would allow you to make your game in private and release it when you want to, without the stress of needing to release for a set date.

@Heff_Wulf: We can agree to disagree then. Go to Nexus and see if people are not demanding mod updates for games. If people like something, they want an update, and having a non-charging patreon instead of a donation button is irrelevant. I think you are equating Patreon to something it is not, and I'd also say your list of games finished in 4 years seems to conveniently ignore a slew of monthly patreons that have been around as long or longer than mine. Two wrongs don't make a right, so I'm not saying that to vindicate myself, I've made plenty of mistakes and those mistakes have potentially cost me the opportunity to turn this into something special. Doesn't mean I won't still try, and definitely doesn't mean when I drop a good release it won't be vindication against all the naysayers.

@YT Hi.
I downloaded Aylia's story a few years ago, shortly after the first release. Since I liked the premise and characters, and your overall vision for the game, I decided to follow it and lend my support. I kept checking up on it in the months that followed, somewhat disappointed but still understanding since you do have a life outside of it.

Then I moved to another country, worked there for a couple years, forgot about your game, and came back to the U.S. Since there never was a "major" update, I was never charged. (thanks for that.) I checked out some other games, and decided to cancel my patron status to yours since obviously nothing's really happened with it.

I'm not angry because there haven't been any game developments. I'm just disappointed because in the time it took me to literally change countries twice and move into a different stage of my life, the game developer has seemingly been teasing patrons about the game and arguing online with anyone who gets mad at him, instead of actually working on the game. As someone else said, If you want people to like you, hold up on updates until you have something to show. I'm also disappointed because, as I said, I LIKED the game's beginning. That's the only reason I'm even writing this. It's a bother looking so forward to something that the creator seems to care less about, and I'd rather not make the mental investment. I'll check on it again in a few years to see how you're doing.

I'll reiterate, I understand that you have a life and that this is a hobby. I read your older patreon posts referencing your real-life responsibilities. My problem is that you're stringing us along with this; if you have too many real-life responsibilities, tell us, don't be a cocktease with all the "maybe, probably" game release stuff. Tell us you're going on hiatus, or finish the next update. But don't make us feel like fools for supporting this thing we like.

tldr: Stop arguing online and work on the damn game. - a former patron

@YT I don't know wether this is stockholm syndrom but I am still excited for your game. I know how hard creating a whole game on your own can be and don't judge you. As you yourselve said you don't have any responsibility to finish the game what so ever. Frick those whiny guys who think you owe them something. I assume you already know that but I just felt like spreading some love to you (so you might spread some love to us as well sometime maybe eventually).
Again: It is hard to find the right scope for a project like this. Too small and you might not find the motivation to work on it because it wouldn't be worth it and too big and you're stuck with a hardly possible / impossible task.

I am glad to hear from you from time to time. Maybe this is stockholm syndrom... maybe I never got over wootch abandoning me...

4 years later we have a 80 MB game, half of which is sounds. Honestly... just take it to the backyard and shoot it. You don't get more free time as you grow older, you get less and less to the point where sometimes you have to fit 30 hours of things to do in 24 every day.

Giving people false hope that they will ever get to play the game is bad. The fact that his Patreon hasn't been put in the "on hold" status shows that they want people to stay engaged while giving them bullshit promises on patreon and discord. What pisses me off the most on top of that is that the developer jumps on the defensive and acts all butthurt when people state the obvious. Fact is, you have very little to show and almost nothing when compared to the first demo which was released 4 years ago.

If they had to post proof of work every time they claimed they did anything, I bet there'd be months where not a single minute of work would be put in the game.

But then again, anyone who is gullible enough to believe this will ever be finished deserves to have blue balls for eternity. It's written in the porn bible. "Thou shalt not worship false producers." - Bullshito 4:20.

@TremoloA - Thanks for the kind words. I appreciate it! It's people like you that I want to deliver a good game for.

The fact that his Patreon hasn't been put in the "on hold" status shows that they want people to stay engaged while giving them bullshit promises on patreon and discord.
The Patreon is on hold. Last post was January and I said I'd post again when the release was ready. Nobody is ever charged unless a release is done. There is not really any other "on hold" option beyond that.

Sorry, what I think many people mean is why have not you set your Patron to "Closed until further notice"
Not saying you should though.

That's not "on hold," that's "closed." Plus, options are limited at what I can do not being monthly. To add to that, because I'm grandfathered in to the non-monthly model, any changes risks me losing that status if the game does start moving forward.

This is so good! Checking back ever 3-4 months, seeing exactly the same discussions...but..it’s like I see them for the first time. It’s like magic, I swear. I fee compelled to read them! God bless you yummy for giving us this forum (and the one in patreoon too!!) drama-soap-opera. Tragic part is, like most of the people here, I actually thought the game had potential.

baka - And people Aylia's Story has achieved nothing. It's encouraged you to improve your health and live another 10 years! Like a ray of sunlight in the darkness.

slothie - The craziest part is you could literally not even open the thread and simply look at the title tags which state "On Hold." My guess is when a release is finally dropped, that tag will be removed. Amazing!

Don't get too discouraged with us unruly perverts Yummy. We know a good game when we see it - and many of us will wait for quality. In the mean time we have dozens of other games to choose from some good and some not so good.

But when a good one comes along I'm willing to wait for releases - sometimes waiting is hard, but I'll still wait. I'm still waiting for the next War Against the Chtorr book. Its been 20 some years and I'm still checking for updates every few months.

May the Muses strike you like a red headed stepchild!
