Well, it either says something about her or something about the game. Either it's her misjudging him and thinking all he's after is adventures sex and this is her helping him to explore and thinking that it will bring them closer(in the end). And that assumption isn't necessary wrong, depending on how the player choose to react. Or it's a clear sign of what's to come from the game and that there won't be any depth, and the most exiting that will happen relationship-wise is risky sex and threesomes. I really dislike the scene and for me it makes zero sense, not the least since by her own admission she's been in love with him for years, she should be pulling him in the other direction and be A BIT more sensitive considering his previous experience. And I kinda agree with Haremlover that the lesbian scene(even though I kinda skipped through it) felt borderline rapey. It feels like it's more of a kink pleasing scene rather than something that fits the narrative, the flashback and the "date".
I see her as his "one that got away", the girl he always had a crush on but couldn't act on because 1) she was his BF's sister and/or 2) he didn't have the self-esteem necessary to make a move. Besides Elaine was "the one" to the MC or so he thought so he didn't really explore the idea that he could have been with Kate. Now his "secret crush" is attainable and it turns out that she has always been interested in him. It's practically a Hollywood rom-com setup and she then spends their first date relating the story of her first time to him, which was with an older woman, and telling him she
REALLY likes fucking other women.
Yeah, he is venting his pent up desires but he could have seen himself settling down with Kate either in a polyamorous or monogamous relationship but the scene comes off as a moment where she lacks empathy because she doesn't know how promiscuous he has been so far. Only we know how much of a slut the MC has been, she seems to behave in a manner that shows she is aware of all of his escapades. That date should occur in the context of his breakup, the sex they had, and then the scene in the Park with Mara and Kate. She has no awareness of anything else he has done yet talks like he is going to jump at the chance to see her fuck some random waitress even though he caught Elaine in bed with another woman, we don't even know if he was aware that Elaine was into women or if he was comfortable with her bisexuality.
As you said it feels like the game is heading in the direction of "cram as many threesomes into the game as possible" which is disappointing because prior to this update I felt it had a nice balance between story and porn.
He wrote exactly why he can't make the emotional connection, because of the lack of empathy she shows in that scene. No need to take this into another direction, especially not with an extremity like this.
