I cannot speak for others, only for myself.
I am someone who knows how to appreciate and reward the effort and work.
If I like something I am willing to pay for it, but I don't like to pay for something that is not finished especially not if I don't know the author and his work ethic.
Because i see it as in very large parts of the normal economy.
I get paid for my work when i finish it.
It is simply not normal for me to pay for something for which I cannot expect anything in return.
If it goes well, I'll get something delivered, if not, I'm just unlucky? That's not my thing

For this reason I consider it to be the case that I frolic on pirate sites and do not commit myself to anyone, but as soon as a game is finished I pay my obulus to the dev.

Many DAZ assets i get free.... like so many of us do. What I do is if i use it, i then buy it as its only fair to give back to the creator of those assets. Kinda same thing i feel.

I'm sorry, but you're wrong here. Yes, it might arouse some people's interest at first and they might subscribe to your page/website out of curiosity. But on the long term you are loosing more folks just because, hey, they can get your stuff here or someplace else, for free. This "free advertising" theory is false, sorry!

I post a lot of images myself, here and in many other places. I make renders for fun. It's not a job for me, it's just hobby. I opened a patreon page at the suggestion of some folks a while ago, because they wanted more stuff from me, offering to pay me, in exchange of some visual depictions of their fantasies (commissioned work, more or less).
The thing is, for small developers and/or freelance artists, leaking their stuff may lead them into abandoning their endeavor. So what's the point?

Wait, so dev opened a patreon AFTER people saw his stuff and wanted more and were willing to pay for it, but can't see the point in making content that will be leaked to people who will see it and want more and be willing to pay for it?

Well, I've made a poll a while ago on patreon, folks don't seem to be interested in games/VNs. So there's no point to continue with this.

shame its abandoned the renders are really nice but i have never even seen the game on the site until today and i check the site a few times everyday to keep ahead of updates and new games etc since i don't want a backlog

This looks like a hostage situation and you're being held (back) against your will.

Unless you ofcourse do not desire to grow as a creator anymore or for some reason you feel obliged to pander to your current supporters demands no matter what, otherwise you can't be sure if it's worth venturing into if you don't ask a broader audience.

I guess you could also just resent the idea of fiddling around with renpy yourself and you're using your patrons as an excuse, which is totally fair.
