VN - Ren'Py - Being a DIK [v0.10.1] [DrPinkCake]

Another masterpiece by Dr. PinkCake after his previous work, Acting Lessons. It has a lot of beautiful characters, and you can choose who to go after. The choices influence you chick-dik rating, which in turn influence the story paths available to you. Thus, it also has a lot of new content for replayability.
But the best thing about the game, or adult visual novel to be more appropriate, is its really good story coupled with excellent soundtrack. It will make you laugh, love, and cry. It will make you stick to your screen for hours just longing for more.
For me, it's really hard to find a cons in this VN, considering it's being developed by a single person, who tries to push huge timely updates, which have just gone better and better by each update.

This is my review for Being a DIK by Dr PinkCake version 0.8.2.

The good

• In the freeroam parts, sometimes is hard to find the hidden renders

In conclusion, 5 stars worth playing.

I started the game a bit after the new Year and finished Episode 8 a couple of days ago. I'm positive I could've written the review when I finished Episode 3 but I wanted to complete the current version first to see if anything would change for me. It did. I got in love with this fucking game even more! I've reviewed and commented on Dr's previous work and I believe it's redundant to comment once again on his unmatchable story making skills and alluring and in depth world creation abilities. The fascinating animations, the jaw-dropping visuals and renders, an extremely extensive collection of some of the best songs and soundtracks a game can provide and lastly, but most importantly, the remarkable, unfathomable ability to create characters that feel REAL! I cannot stress this enough.. Every character in the game feels, for me, like it actually exists maybe in another timeline or universe. Everyone is so well crafted and written and each of them carry a rich and deeply emotional and human story on their backs. These are real people with real problems, emotions, memories and experiences and the way you (as the Protagonist) can interact with each of them is completely out off this world! The game gets 6/5 for me. If you think reading this that I'm exaggerating a bit much, when you start playing for yourselves remember... I'm not exaggerating enough..

I enjoyed this a lot. The story is fleshed out so well that each character has enough depth to them. The dev definitely knows when to pull the heartstrings, too. I didn't think I would enjoy it as much as I did, but it definitely earned its spot as a top rated game in this site.

Edit: The free roam becomes a chore and not fun. Replaying the game feels less appealing because of this.

Overall, it's good.

The free roam and rpg elements are a bit all over the place. I don't think their implementation is polished enough but I appreciate the effort for doing something different. I think all in all it's a plus though.

The characters are interesting for the most part.

My biggest issue is I don't buy that this is college. It seems more like a high school setting.

For the budget this game has I also expected some more innovation such as softbody physics for the animations (maybe even a full muscle system for the characters ) and the bare minimum at least cloth simulation for the clothes fitting but sadly that is even lacking.

Those issues aside you can tell there's a lot passion put into the game. But I'm afraid the dev's adult vn formula will be outdated by the time this game is completed render-wise ( especially without any cloth or softbody dynamics).

Writing is excellent, most characters go through interesting development arcs.

I played through ch9 others route and I tried to go back and play the rest but man, I just can't find it in me to care about any of the main girls.

This is genuinely my favorite game. It's got everything:
- Great visuals with hot and rather realistic characters.
- Characters with personalities and not just holes on legs
- Humor, rage, heartbreak, anger, mystery, sadness, this game made my laugh and shout and cry
- Some don't like that in a game, but I love that you shape your playthrough and choices do have consequences (sometimes major ones)
- Plenty of content with a great pace to it
- Mini games are fun if you like those, but you can disable them if you don't

I seriously struggle to find anything wrong with this game other than some of my fetishes are not always present in it. You could also argue it's full of clichés, but that kind of adds to its charm.

Seriously a great game that I recommend to everyone

Its okay. Theres lots of content, and the girls are pretty, but it really feels like I have to stop every 3 seconds and play a stupid minigame which really breaks apart the game and makes it harder to get lost in it. It also has a moral system (Niceguy/dik) which means you have to play through multiple times to see everything, which is annoying. It really stands in its own way on the path to being great

Best renders so far, sexy girls, good story. I played it through in one, without stopping, just to work in between. So much content, really good.
I wait for the next big update. Loving to continue.
Please give us more of those. Dense story, good characters.

It is an enjoyable college romp with plenty of humour and spicy action..

The MC in it starts as s fairly moral and innocent character. We can continue his journey as a nice guy or become a bad boy. This also affects which females he can get freaky with..

Playing the Chick or nice guy allows you into a throuple relationship with Maya and Josey. Maya is lesbian and Josey is bi. Both are hot girls but Maya can be annoying with her feminist stances and whining about her daddy and money issues. Deal with it and grow up girl!

As a bi female, I liked having the throuple option. Unfortunately there's not much hot threesome scenes as yet. You have to choose between them each time...boo! Come on, we are 2 seasons in...there should be hot and heavy 3 way action by now... *wink*

Playing as a DiK is the real fun! you can stick the MC's dick in more girls courtesy of the slutty HoTs...

The story is engrossing and has great humour. Renders are amazing, apart from the MC's red skin...he looks sunburned!

Music is brilliant and fits perfectly. It helps the emotional impact in a lot of scenes.

Dr Pinkcake really has created a work of art. This game literally oozes quality and the fact the dev has so many patreons tells you something.

I totally recommend this game for the emotional and fun rollercoaster ride you will experience.

Quality VN

-I love the animations and the design.
-Mini games are entertaining.
-Interesting story; decisions always have consequences, which adds replayability.
-Comical, sexy, twisted, sad, and emotional
-Each character has their own distinct personality.

Good game, but not totally worth the hype IMO.
- Renders are 8/10. Nice colors but characters look very similar.
- Story 7/10. Good writing but very generic and predictable.
- Content 9/10. The Dev really has put a lot of work into this.

OH GOD ! That is my first reaction after completing the 8 chapters of this AWSOME game. It is one of the few games for now i finished the content. But was a ride it was , can't wait for the updates. Will i replay it HELL YES.
Here are my pros and cons ( is there any ? )

PROS ;
-THE MODELS ARE HOT !!!!!!!! ( riona , sage and josy are my girls )
-The graphics are the best i seen so far !!!!!
-The animations are the best i seen so far !!!!!
-The text dialog in the sex and animations scenes are great
-The story is good ( not really my kind so imagine how good it is )
-The choices make it a good replay value !!!

Moderate ( no cons )
- The kink (fetish ) are ok for my taste ( love extreme ) but the game is so AWSOME that i do not care!!

Being a Dik is fine, it's sad to be honest that this use to be so great and one of the best games on the site. The last 3 chapters have sadly brought down the game's score a lot for me.

Atmosphere:
Let's start here cause it might be one of the biggest reasons for the game's decline, every chapter after 5 doesn't have that college fun vibe i got before that made the game so enjoyable. Chapter 6 was where i first noticed the decline, i think it has to do with the fact that you live with the Dik's now. It just really isn't good cause they are all side characters who you know are only there so you can do lewd stuff with they're girls, Heather and Elaine. Also the first 5 chapters were a lot more colorful and detailed, idk if it's a different program but the recent chapters just don't do it for me. All in all i really dislike the atmosphere of current chapters and 1-5 blow it out of the water.

Story:
When Maya and Jose happened, i actually loved this cause DPC made a twist that shocked me a bit, but also made sense. Sadly i'm not a fan of the generic "Homophobic dad" trope where he disowns his daughter, and he made this into a whole plot point so not a fan. The story has been pretty simple for the first 5 chapters and that's the best thing for a game like this. I sound like a broken record but chapter 6 is where this started to go downhill. Dpc is adding way to much drama and twists into a story that worked better as a fun college story that didn't take itself to seriously. Also can we please stop having everyone be related? at this point just announce that Mc's mom birthed every girl in the game. I literally rolled my eyes when i saw that dumb bait like cliffhanger from Episode 8. Maybe the Vinnie stuff will save the plot but i highly doubt it. Also locking out the girls was incredibly bad but i don't know how much longer the game is so i'll reserve judgeent.

Characters:
I always thought that the characters were a strong point for this game and i still somewhat do. The DIK characters to me have a super interesting dynamic but this an adult game so it doesn't get much focus comapred to the girls. I would watch a show of the Dik's life on TV if i'm being totally honest. The girls are also pretty good, but not as good as the male chracaters. The recent devolpment with jill has bothered me if i'm being honest. It's suppose to be a slow burn but really you date her for a few weeks and then you go straight to fucking her. It's one of the worst "Slow burns" i've seen. DPC also made her character a little too uptight, at the start she laughs at an ass joke then she becomes a prude about everything, decent character that i think DPC should've sticked with her chapter 1 self. Maya and Jose are okay, but kinda bland which is why they are the main love interests. I have no investment towards the MJ plot and i never will. The side girls are good even though all of them are one note, i will say that there is way too many characters if i'm being honest, like DPC's gotta relax. He reintroduced another character from the mc's past when there's other characters that need devolpment badly.

Overall Thoughts= This is a fine game that will give you enjoyment, i think it was great for 5 chapters then started falling off. I hope the dev gets the game back to it's glory days.

Exceptional game. The renders and animations are top notch. The writing and humor are both great. The only thing that could mess this game up is if someone dies pointlessly in a fire.

I'm a little bothered by being forced to choose who to be with at the end of the last update, so now I'm going to have to play a bunch of different paths. But considering how good this game is it doesn't matter. I'll gladly play all the routes. Just don't kill off any of my favorites.

Such a fantastic game! I was as hooked playing episodes 5-8 as I was 1-4! The story, music, visuals, and mini-games are top-notch. I can't believe this isn't being created by a larger studio. Each of these characters has a life of their own and you can feel the emotional binds each one creates.

The best 3DCG adult visual novel on the market. Character models are fantastic, story is pretty good, scenes are well animated and mini games are OK. Also the game is very big and not even close to being done, so I'd say this 5 star is deserved.
