According to me while playing any vn game player put a bit of himself with emotions in mc so If charecter is great of LI most of time it's enough for men to fuck her most desired Li but in FP , man can't put themselves on female but there are some weird people which even enjoy ntr.For now DPC has completely killed Jill, put Sage in a coma.
Considering there are 5 LIs I'd say he's done a good job.
I can't tell you what the problem is either....
the fact is that playing with a male protagonist is easy, essentially you have 2 options: have fun and fuck whoever you can, "fall in love" and devote yourself to one or more LIs
with a female protagonist if I decide to have fun I feel like a pimp, if I decide to be faithful I feel like a nun...
But majority makes the rules (thanks god) so MP is most driven force in vn games because most vn player or likely 99% are man.

It doesn't have to be that way - you could just as easily make a game like BaDIK where a female MC explores her sexuality in general - but clearly that's not the current zeitgeist.

There are many ways to play such a game, some are just here for fapping material and don't care about the story. Don't forget taht many players here are still joung teenagers who don't care much about feelings and emotions, they want tits and ass!
But there is also many older ones who are more interested in a good story, into developing a relation with a character.
I'm an old guy and i have seen a lot of real tits and ass during my life so i love the visual part but if there is no good story or characters i can't play a game like this.
I don't care if the MC is male or female, i have get over with that insecurity of playing a girl since a long time, i love it actually, so we can say that i'm an old virtual trans/crossdresser/... or whatever you want, it's just fun.
