Actually it just struck me a few seconds after I posted.The story has to have an ending he just can't leave it hanging, but I agree with Pasha that discussing the ending is premature at this point, when the game is liable to only end sometime after five or six years. If it's completed at all.
That said, the only ending I ever imagined was the one with Sage. Of course they're going to go their separate ways after Sage graduates, she's going to be pursuing her career, he's still got three years of college to go and then his career as well. But ten years down the road, at a business conference or even class reunion MC's attention is suddenly caught by a flash of red across the room . . .
Same scenario, a business conference ten years later. MC is on the phone with his engineering firm trying to solve a minor crisis with a phone call when he sits down at a table (the way Sage sat down at his table the first time they met), notices someone else sitting there, looks up and right into the eyes of Sage. Fade to black.
