Well to me the three strengths of the game are:Honest question. Haven't gotten to play BaDIK yet but for months I've been wondering what's all the fuss about it.
What makes this game stand out so much over the rest?
- Re-playability. The choices along the way have a great deal of impact. To see most of the content the game has to be played at least five times and even then you'll have not seen some major variations. But each variant of the story is engaging in its own way.
- Character design. The characters look good but it's their personalities that truly make them shine. Quite a few of them get hate, but it's the kind of hate that tells you more about the hater. They hate those types of people and thus the characters are actually rather accurately written. Some people really are that naive and sheltered. Some people are that callous. Some people are that arrogant and self-centred. Many players complain about the characters being stupid, but it's the kind stupidity that young people go through and learn from. The vast majority of the characters have only just become legal adults. If they had the maturity and experience of people well into their thirties, it would be unrealistic to the point of breaking the immersion.
- Emotional scenes. A lot of games manage a decent plot. You'll have to chase the characters and along the way they become sexier for it. But you don't fall in love with them. There are moments in this game that will make you fall in love.
But it wouldn't be right to only talk about the good points and not warn you about the bad points:
- Mini-games. They are not all bad. Some I actually really enjoy. But having to go through them every single time gets tedious. You can switch them off, but this limits your story options. Some combinations of the story elements are only available with the mini-games on.
- Overdramatic choices. Mostly the choices and their consequences are reasonable, but there are times when you could rather obviously do something more neutral, but the game won't offer that option.
- The wait. Thinking about it objectively the dev is actually pretty fast. If you compare time of development and amount of content vast majority of devs can't manage half this much. And it makes sense to release the story in big episodes rather than smaller chunks. We would have to wait longer to get to an episode's end if it was delivered in smaller chunks. But the wait is torture.
