The upcoming EP will have nearly as much content as the first 4 episodes of this game combined.

The upcoming update will probably have around 7K statics & over 370 animations.

So yes, it's taking forever, but the updates are colossal, specially compared tot he first episodes.

The episode may not feel as large, but that's due to the branching, but if you actually try to see all the scene it will take quite a while, even if you disable minigames and skip the canon scenes.

That post is not of use to fully compare if development is going slower or not, because we don't know exact numbers of hours spent on development during "dev had regular job" phase.
We can assume "working full time on game" phase as 8 hours per day, 5 days a week, we can deduct holidays and other non working days etc.
But let's count just days, for example
Episode 2, 3 & 4 had 6454 renders and 310 animations - done in 340 days at spare time speed.
Episode 11 - 7000 renders and 380 animations - 338 days and counting at full time speed.

He spends most of his time on low quality animations. His animations are really very primitive and unnatural, and they take 80% of his development and rendering time.

His animations are in fact totally average for VNs, he's at the same level of many other developers that use DAZ to animate. Some others VN developers are able to make better animations with DAZ, it's true, but it's not that DPC's are among the worst. He's average and that's not a problem for this VN.
His animations are mediocre and embarrassing only if you compare them with what skilled people do with Blender/Maya, but those are people focused mostly or only on animations. DPC has so many aspects to deal with, so he cannot excel in anything, he has to to mass-produce as he works alone. Also, I don't think animations take him 80% of the time. A lot of time, indeed, but not 80%. Regarding rendering time, that's true but he has many PCs so they don't block his work. They'll probably be the bottleneck again for the release, because he will have to pose others when he makes the last lewd scenes.

You have also to consider that many (probably most) of his patrons pretend animations, so he has to make them, even if they feel crap if you are used to look at good ones. Then he gradually started feeling too excited doing animations and exceeded, now making long cutscenes that 99% of the players will see once, then skip like a plague in the following replays. People cannot protest on Discord because they'll get banned, so he believes everyone thinks he's the new Kubrick/Sergio Leone/Scorsese.
But consider this: he still produces most content, per year, than the majority of the other developers (also because he has the income to afford it).

So, just deal with it, this is what's going to be and nothing is going to change it, he will never change his workflow. Let's be patient and play other VNs.

I don't think there's anyone right now who seriously thinks this episode will come out this year. November 15th the final preview came out, we're two months behind at best. DPС is probably hoping deep down that it will make it this year, but that's impossible.

Unless he's going to release the game without animations like Iсstor did back in the day.

He can say it will take 3 months to render animations and release a version without animations, then 3 months later a version with animations. He'll keep his fans loyal and probably be able to reduce the pressure. I'm willing to bet he's seriously considering it. Either he'll do a poll and the majority will vote that they're willing to wait.

In fact, right now the main hope of many( including myself) is that it will be February. March is probably more realistic, but damn March looks too depressing. The worst part is that he seems to have lost control of the development. I'm willing to bet ep12 might not come out until late 2026. We'll be at a point where it will take almost two years to develop one ep.

Until 1 month ago, I was thinking that it would be released in December. Now I hope that maybe a miracle will happen and EP11 will be released in December as a New Year's gift.

While the static numbers do match up roughly the animations do not since their duration is quite different, the 3 early episodes you mentioned had a total time of around 16:30 minutes, meanwhile EP 9 and 10 had 25+ mins each as you can see in the post I linked.

So the amount of content is still quite bigger on the newer episodes.

And before you say that there that most of the animations are useless crap, they actually aren't.

EP 10 non lewd animations had a total duration of around 130s at most. And yes that includes the barbecue intro, the zoey run and the car animation.

So most of the animations are for lewd stuff.

Now sure, if he haven't started render the animations in 60fps the update would come out sooner, no discussion there it was a stupid decision then and it's even worse now that all animations are going to have an increased framerate and take even longer to render.

I don't know how many single renders each animation have, but even with that into consideration, numbers don't add up. We can add even coding, which is more complicated now with so many branches, and takes more time. We can even add episode 5 into first group, to cover for all that, it still will be short.
Especially considering that until March (which seems to be the most optimistic release date) number of days for episode 11 will count nearly 450. And might even go further. Add to that - number of hours per day have to be largely different, so it will make things even "worse".
I mean, at the end of the day it's not important, it will not deliver us game faster, just debating, it seems to me that he got lazy.

A- release it on December 31st just so his yes-men cand defend him and say "look, it still came in 2024" (extremely unlikely)

B- release it somewhere in early 2025, get a shit ton of backlash due to taking over a year, shrug it of cause it's his game to do what he feels like, maybe lose some patrons, same thing happens with ep 12 coming out in 2026, even more backlash, maybe only then he'll slightly humble himself and work out some kind of compromise.

There is no way he can release this in 7 weeks or so. Too much work left. This episode will hit almost 7K renders and 400 60fps animations. Late January is possible, with super quick beta testing.

Still, not so bad. New chapters of Artemis, Eternum and Intertwined are coming out soon.

I remember that dev had "a patreon goal" (reached long time ago) after which he will quit his regular job and work full time on game to provide faster updates. But it seems updates are delivered slower than before. Even if we count content size, which seems to be slightly larger than in first updates.

I want to believe there will be backlash but the fan base from DPC's patreon is truly loyal (this forum is the only place DPC is openly criticized) so sadly it seems he won't lose enough patreons to speed up the future releases even if episode 11 is releases in summer 2025

dunno about the animations, but you are right on the cinematics. You need to watch them at least once. Not sure if there is a workaround, but I don't mind that, I'll watch them once.

Luckily enough, to bypass "forced first watch" there's no need to wait for a professional modder.

Up to current Episode 10 typing in the console persistent.seen_cutscene_ep9 = [True, True, True] should be enough.

If in next episodes he will use the same mechanism, AstroGrep will do the trick on the new scripts...
