Imo this was better than if he told nothing. It's not like he went to Zoey while Sage was still there. He just wanted to meet his former best friend on his day off, there should be nothing wrong with that.

For a very simple reason: Sage apparently doesn't have even a single close friend who was her actual friend for more than a couple of years, nevermind one she'd have spent half of her childhood/teenage years with.
