Unless I'm forgetting some dialogue where Josy talks to Sage about Chad (wouldn't surprise me, but I don't seem to find it in the script) it makes no sense to me why this would cause Sage not to go if you're on her path.
If there is indeed no dialogue, It wouldn't surprise me that instead of telling Josy about Chad, the game should look instead at the variable for telling Sage about Chad.

No, I just replaced the variable, told Josie about Chad, and it worked. As for the "why," it's probably because of the dialogue structure, where instead of inviting you as a friend (Maya's idea), Josie suggests the beard trick (from the dialogue with you at the gym).

During the meeting in the library, if you mention to Josy about she will suggest to grow a beard which will then trigger Derek asking for a girlfriend. You will also see it in ep11 when Sage is flirting with the shrimp and mention about the idea

Yeah, it's pretty dumb imo that Josy is the only one who comes up with that idea and not Sage is well if you didn't tell Josy.
