It's mind boggling if you think that each of those 4600+ renders are vital to this update. There are great games that have managed without creating a render for each finger movement. As a result the size of this rendered images game is starting to compete with that of large open world games with much more content. Oh and don't get me started on the irrelevant D&G bs, that stuff exists only for padding and nothing else. Same as quite a few other parts of the game.

If you think DPC is not trying to prolong the lifespan of BaDIK, you are laughably naive. His previous game was nowhere near as successful and seeing as how he's obsessed with cashflow nowadays, it would be stupid of him not to milk it at this point. It's fine to like the game, but stop being in denial and defending DPC like he's some kind of saint. He's just a guy like any other.
It’s mind boggling that you can’t accept that the parts of the game that do not appeal to your interests aren’t necessarily "padding".

I really enjoy DnG, I don’t even skip through it on a new play through even though I know how it’ll end. I’m hoping for another round before the end of the game.

Some people didn't like the mansion repair minigame, others absolutely loved it and spent time coming up with spreadsheets identifying the optimum way to play it. Felice will tell you I'm a weirdo, but I even put together a standalone version of it. The same will happen with the new party planning game, some will love it, some will hate it, and some will call it padding.

And regarding the extra renders, sure, a game could just use two renders in any conversation between two parties, just switch back and forth between the two renders and still get the message across, but if DPC uses more to paint the scene better, to convey more emotion, it only adds to the experience.

An example being the Zoey tattoo scene in the Interlude, where Bret is finishing her chest tattoo, there are 92 scene transitions, 33 of them are unique (including an animation). As she discusses things and her thoughts drift, so do her eyes, and when she feels the sting of the tattoo machine she winces, she raises an eyebrow when she's questioning, she lifts both eyebrows when she's nervous, there are different camera angles, there are the other people in the scene, and so on. DPC didn't need to do all that, he could have just reused a single facial expressions for every sentence and not bothered with the animation. But he has the patience to take it further and so he does.

I really don't think he needs to milk the game, finishing this game will lift him even higher on a pedestal and people will be clambering for his next project. As far as I recall, before he finished Acting Lessons he'd already started work on BaDIK, so he had teasers and information for his patrons, he would likely do the same thing when he finally gets to the last episode of BaDIK (if he's planning to make another game, but I'm pretty sure he's already given indications that he's got ideas in mind).

Bottom line, the reason he puts so much extra stuff into the game is because he's a maniac.

It's mind boggling how it took 15 weeks to develop the smallest update ever, whereas the biggest update released to date took him 30 weeks.

This is milking pure and simple, next update will take a whole year.
It mind boggling how people still can't do basic math. About 4.5 times as many renders and 6.5 times as much animations as the smallest update, which took 3 months. We are not even at 2 times the time interval yet dumb people who are trying too hard to look smart are calling the dev milking.
"Released to date" as far as I am aware this update which is still in the works has not been released.

Was comparing it to episode 8, which is what 3/3.5 times bigger than the interlude, yet it took 30 weeks and the Interlude which is the smallest update to date and took 15 weeks.

Maybe calm down and read the words first before you go and solve the wrong equation, yeah?
Just thought I'd point out that while there were approximately 15 weeks between when episode 8 was completed and when the Interlude was completed, as well as development on the Interlude, that period also included:
  • Season 2 release on Steam
  • Both seasons release on GOG
  • Christmas
  • New Year
That cunt DPC my also have taken some time off! The fucking nerve!

All these details make the game stand out from others... cause its way more like a movie and feels way more "alive" than all the other AVNs around here... yeah you can make a whole scene with only twi renders, just back and forth and fill everything else with text... but those are most of the time not that good, and getting tirering to read. Soon enough you dont even look at the renders anymore, cause there is nothing interesting or new to see anyways.

In BaD i go back and forth the scenes and watch every render closely, did that so many times... cant count anymore how many playthroughs i made where i really watched everything without skipping. And nearly everytime i discover something new or interesting that slipped thorugh so far... this is really something other AVNs can deliver, not even close.

People who dont pay attention to this or dont like stuff like this tend to say "oh my dont make a fuss and stick to the important things" but than it wouldnt be being a dik. The whole title say what this game is about "being". DPC wants to create a little college universe that feels alive... and those details are very important for this goal. Of course they are distracting, and without them the game would be already finished.

But there is a reason why this game has so much more success than all the other VNs and way more than the first from DPC...
Acting Lessons didnt have those details...

And you can clearly see playing being a dik, that DPC never was satisfied with his work on AL, and still isnt with being a dik too... every episode gets more and more details, and is technically improving too...

Yeah DPC is manic, or a maniac... both. I think you have to be this way to make such a project on your own.

If you dont like that details, fine, skip them, dont pay for the game (we are on a pirate site for a reason, and i didnt pay any money for the game the first time i downloaded it)

But i love these details, and i wouldnt love the game that much without them...

Well its the same with Red Dead Redemption 2 i guess... there are so many unnecessary things in this game which are very time consuming... but they make the game "alive" and i love such things. i wouldnt enjoy the game without them so much like i do.

D&G is just thinly veiled excuse for some extra sex scenes with the game cast in different costumes (or without) It does boggle the mind someone would essentially complain "he's adding pointless porn to a porn game, that's padding and milking!".

I think DPC said he wasn't going to do something like what he did for the ending in Acting Lessons. There's going to be some melodrama stuff but nothing that'd make someone just want to sit down and process what the hell just happened. So just a few twists here and there but no gut punches.
As for Neil not being the his biological dad, it just seems out-of-place and something I think DPC would do if he really just wanted to add more drama because there's nothing else. Plus, I mean it could just mean MC looks more like his mom. Which makes sense because let's be honest, he wouldn't be getting almost every female character in the story telling him he's "hot" (meaning his physical appearance and not just about his horse dong) while looking like Neil.
Am glad that's the case, maybe am just being paranoid lol

Josy and Maya, they are really the weakest part, Mostly Because of Maya. Everything about in this Path, is about Maya. Maya money problem, Maya's Father, now Maya joining the Hots.
Meanwhile Josy has zero own story arc
Josy is already the best girl without a so called story arc, watch we learn lot about Josy going forward, but do will really need too? Mc will learn what he needs too when Josy is really or DPC really, but until im happy with what we have

Given how scared Josy is of being left alone, maybe her arc triggers when you decide to go for other girl in Ep.8

And by arc i mean stabbing spree.

Here's an attempt at a status update to give you some stats as I wanted for Friday.
Work completed:
  • 3652 renders (3569 produced and 83 in the render queue)
  • 211 animations (201 animations produced, 10 in the render queue)
  • 22 songs
Work that remains:
  • 8 scenes left to write
  • 50 scenes left to pose art for (~1000 more static renders)
  • 3-4 lewd scenes to make animations for (<100 animations)
  • Make some missing GUI for the new mini-game.
  • Write some code needed for other mini-games.
  • Add music (almost done)
  • Add SFX (almost done)
  • Rooster (90% done)
  • Other phone content (Phone chats/Calls, Bios, Stats, Pack Quest, Vault)
  • Collectibles (special renders/2D art/scenes) - Only testing remains
  • Playtest and polish
  • Verify bug fixes from the Interlude.
Overall completion:
My best shot at estimating a completion % right now is:
Static renders: 79%
Animations: 70% (based on animation count, not duration. The longest animations are almost done, so this number should increase faster from now on.)
Writing/Coding: 95%
Render and animation numbers are based on a target of ~4652 renders and 300 animations; subject to change if needed.
The writing/coding percentage is my gut feeling.
Further insight:
Lately, I've done most of Rooster, the main menu art, Jill's special render set, and placement of magazines/unlockables. These tasks require a lot from me, and I'm happy I'm close to done with all of them.
Long animations have been rendering for the last month, and I haven't been animating a lot which is why this count isn't much bigger than the last report I did.
The longest animation I've done to date has almost been completely rendered. It's currently 1 minute 16 seconds (2281 renders) long. It needs a few more hundreds of renders before PCs are freed up for other animations; this should happen before next Friday.
Threesome animations are still in the render queue and have been there for the last two months. They take a very long time to render but are worth it.
I will have a split focus on renders and animations in the upcoming weeks.
I hope you had a nice weekend! I'm still a bit tired, but I've rested and am fit to work again.
Thanks again for your amazing support. I couldn't ask for a better community.

Suggestion for a render: Jade and/or Quinn with MC on Tybalt's bed. It would be funny if Tybalt's bed got more action than he ever will.

Josy's arc begins when we learn that her dad and stepmom met only because she was dating Tommy.
Unlikely, because Pete and Monica have been married for a long time. This can be read in EP2. So Josy was too young for that in the eyes of DPC.

The trick is does Tommy use his tell when he says it, which I don't think he does.
I'm pretty sure the Tommy/Josy relationship is exactly what it looks like:
  • Josy hates Tommy because he's a raging asshole.
  • Tommy hates Josy because she ratted him out for using her nail polish to get high, and possibly other stories of him being a dickhead and Josy telling her parents.
  • Tommy doesn't want Josy in the HOTs because he can't enjoy himself if he's worried she's gonna tell their parents more shit.
  • Josy doesn't stand for Tommy's shit, that's why she just marches up to him and kicks him in the balls for hurting her snowflake friend.
Anything sexual construed from their relationship is entirely due to the lack of incest in this game causing people to have withdrawals.
