Sage says so directly if you reject her. She will wait, but not forever. And she asked Тremolo to tell her when you will have problems with your love interest.
This is a classic friendzone of Sage from DPC. It's so pathetic. I hate you DPC for that.
Sage's reaction to being dumped in episode 8 is almost too good to be credible. Not only does she take the rejection well, but she leaves the door open to potentially restarting a relationship later. The caveat that she won't wait for MC just about let's her keep some of her self-respect, I suppose, but it's still hard seeing Sage in such a weak position, and it's even harder to believe there'd be many girls in real life who would be quite so cool in the same circumstances. It made me think of the way Sage just keeps flirting with MC on some playthroughs, despite being rejected a lot, way past the point where someone as attractive as her would push it. The overriding impression for me from both situations was of being overly aware of the Hand of DPC, keeping possible lines open for the rest of the story, rather than making the story itself believable. Overall I really like Sage in spite of all this, but sometimes I don't think she's well served by the way DPC makes her act.

My main run is Sage's path on neutral affinity without Jade and Quinn. But even then when MС enters the room, MС starts screaming FUCK FUCK FUCK! What the fuck, DPC? My MC did not fuck Jade, did not humiliate Tybalt, and in general, Jill himself eventually refused Tremolo, not inviting him to a family dinner with sushi.
The player saw Burke three times in his life and all three times they just said hello. Why should I worry? I don't know anything about Burke fucking college girls.
The only explanation for such a reaction may be that it is a retrospective reaction. During the last scene, the MC in the background says that autumn has passed, winter has come and it seemed to them that they were happy, but it didn't seem so. This reaction may be a reaction from memories.
Either way, this scene is shit done and do not grounded. It can only make sense for Dik on Sage's way with Jade and for Chick on Jill's way.
I’m holding out for the start of the next episode to have some variety. Maybe have the MC taking stock and reassessing precisely how he’s interacted with these people. If this scene actually has some branching plot (one of the rare scenes where choices impact heavily) he could have his dramatic cake and eat it. A cliffhanger that leads into “actually, we’re fine”.

If the episode starts exactly where it left off and the MC mentally runs down his interactions with the Burkes it could be a good setup for the scene playing out differently. Ideally he realises on some routes he has nothing to worry about. In others he realises “fuck” doesn’t quite do enough to describe the shitstorm he’s about to walk into.

The other bullshit option is DPC treats everyone the same, we get one scene for every route, and DPC equates all the bare minimum issues with Tybalt to the whole Jade affair thing. If Stephen reacts the same to you mildly humiliating his son to you fucking his wife on camera and sharing it with your frat I’m gonna lose a lot of faith in DPC.

PCs have been rendering animations this week, and the speed is decent.

As I've mentioned before, I've been exploring SFW animations more than usual, but I've also tried utilizing a different kind of animation type that I've done a few times during lewd scenes in the past. I'm talking about animations where the camera cuts between different angles, making it more cinematic than looping. I found it very fun making animations this way, especially SFW animations.

Sometimes I string together 3-4 animations in a single animation. I will be moving more towards this animation type in the future, too. It won't replace the standard looping type, but it's something I want to explore more because I see potential in making interesting animations with it.

The Interlude will have 36 animations, and it's plenty more than that since several include 2-4 animations in one. So, the animation count from now on might feel less, but what's on paper won't do it justice. After all, it's just numbers, and the feeling when playing is what matters.

I estimate the remaining render time to be somewhere in between 1-2 weeks. Testers and proofreader have been notified, so beta testing and proofreading will start as soon as the animations finish, and I've tested them in-game.

I have polished and playtested the game this week, and I'm feeling happy with the Interlude as a whole. The release date is leaning towards early March at the moment.

Since there is waiting time now, even for me, I'm going to go ahead and start working on episode 9 because I frankly can't wait to get started on it. I have a lot of writing and planning to do. The Interlude will, of course, take priority when I can work more on it.

The .zip file for the Interlude, the first installment of Season 3, will be approximately 2.5-2.7 GB. You will be able to download it using a free MEGA account this time, which is great.

The preliminary changelog for the first modest release of Season 3 is the following:

-- Changelog Interlude --

Added the Interlude that includes

  • 793 renders
  • 36 animations
  • 2 2D-art pieces
  • 2 2D-art animations
  • 19 songs
  • 18 sound effects

Next week, I'll give you the final part of this series, which is the remaining three pages of the comic book and some of the art that I used to create it.

Have a nice weekend!

Dr PinkCake
Hmph! Some of us like numbers, thank you very much.

Anyway, we sound qualitatively further from release this week than last week. We've learned the estimated static and animation totals, but not how many have been rendered already. We know DPC had completed ~700 static renders by January 21, so those are probably finished by now. We also know there's 1-2 weeks of animations left to render. From the recent Q&A, those take between 1-28 days to render; DPC says these are on the longer side, but I doubt they're anywhere near the top of that curve. If we assume a relatively consistent rendering rate when DPC has been been working, I'd estimate he's probably averaging something on the order of 4 animations per week. Given that, our charts would look something like this:

DPC will still want time for playtesting, so we're looking at 2-3 weeks until release at best. So I'd say we're probably looking at an early March release. Late February is still possible, but everything would have to go right. (We might have a bit more leeway if DPC is willing to release the Interlude on a non-Friday, but I'm assuming he won't). Let's hope it's worth it.

I just hope DPC doesn't make another drama out of it, like when you reject Josy in episode 4 and she cries in Maya's room if you decide to help her with her luggage. On the other hand, Sage's openness can lead to the fact that you will cheat with her on your chosen LI. The mechanics of cheating will be for sure, and Sage is the best candidate.
Sage is the love interest with which the easiest way and with which the maximum amount of content. Even if the player runs away from her the whole game, he can still choose her at the end of episode 7. This is all confusing to me. Why is this done? Maybe it is she who is pregnant from MC, and that test was a retrospective from memories?

This game is gonna kill me for good. Fuck me!

And about the different branches of the game (always with Derek, sage, or Bella) in the fourth episode, I encounter a problem with my saves. We started the three branches, making saves for each of the branches, but when we restart the game from a save from another branch (Let's say we were advancing the three branches to the end courses, and we wanted to advance all the branches as well and starting from the respective saves) The game does not seem to take into account the change of variables when we resume the game on another branch. Is it just us, or is it the same for you too?

Hype!

  • We recently hit the 3 Years Anniversary of Being a DIK with today 1,100 Days of development.
  • The production ratio are clearly underwhelming but let's not forget DPC also had a COVID incident and it's a side-story.
    • DPC now seems to assemble animations, they could be around 60. Would need investigation after release.
    • As raw numbers, to hit the Ratio Average it would be supposed to be rush in 40 days total. So it's not relevant.
    • Estimated game size breakdown.
  • The side-story might be released in 20 Days. Which project the release of EP9 around September.

Was wondering the same... Quality won't get much higher that's for sure... got no clue actually... I don't think a new system would cost this much in size... ehhh who cares ! Will see when it actually drops

If you compare the interlude with earlier episodes 1 and 2 they have double the renders in same amount of time.Is that because of the improved render quality?

I don't think that DPC is so careless to hide part of the content of EP 9 because with UnRen it could be seen

The range of possible situations in which MC could find himself depending on his choices is so wide that there will surely be differences in how that meeting will be approached.

but I'm almost sure that they will be very subtle differences, limited to a few renderings, that will have their effect only later in the story (postponing a known punishment is the best punishment)

MC had sex with Jade? then Jade will give Mc some lascivious looks
MC dumped Jade? then Jade will throw some lightning bolts from her eyes at his address
Burke has seen the footage of Jade? then Burke will laugh under his breath seeing him there.

That's interesting indeed, I tried to run some numbers based on EP8:
  • 36 animations (1.2 to 1.8 GB)
  • 793 renders (620 to 950 MB)
  • game/renpy/lib/gui files (400 MB)
  • 19 songs (70 MB)
  • 2 2D-art animations (2 MB?)
  • 18 sound effects (1 MB)
  • 2 2D-art pieces (<1 MB)
About 2.6 GB

The 1.2 GB estimate is based on multiple angle animated scene of EP8 (4 animations in one), about 30-40 MB.
If it's goes most sized like the Maya toboggan (47 MB) or the MC bedroom tour (52 MB) we could be close to 1.8 GB.

For renders the average size could be 780 KB when most complexe can be over 1.2 MB.
The record is 2.4 MB in EP6 during the DnG
