Contrary to what is being presented in those other threads, it's not just a Visa/MC issue. Both France and the UK just enacted national age verification laws that specifically target "pornography". As of now, it's not problematic, but could be soon. Germany did it several years ago, and now we can't sell our games in Germany without a rating from the government, and they won't do that rating if you show anything explicit.
So, why does this matter? Well, the UK and France are literally the number 2 and 3 markets. Losing access to those would cut revenue by about 25%. Imagine taking a 25% pay cut. I can tell you, making this is NOT cheap. I am NOT getting rich from this. And I'll be hiring an actual employee next year to help me, which means even more expenses.
Again, my thought process is more along the lines of "Make both versions". Instead of doing D&D for $9.99, it goes for $8.99 with the less explicit version with the option to unlock the explicit version for 99 cents more. Ends up being the original price, and still VERY affordable. You don't LOSE any content in the less explicit version. It's just different camera angles
