Doesn't look like it's a problem with the game... and you need nor directplay nor compatibility mode to run RPGM games, something is very wrong with your copy of Windows.

My only guess is that somehow Microsoft Visual C++ files got broken or your antivirus is fucking with you.
If that's 1st, then fix your goddamn Windows with this:

Otherwise, turn off your antivirus and redownload the game and try to run it.

Microsoft Defender always tells me that its blocking the program and gives a "run anyway" button, then whitelists after I click that.

I would not recommend turning off antivirus, whitelisting is usually fairly easy, just check the settings of your antivirus program.

Though, there's always edge cases, but frankly, running a virtual machine is an option with games that aren't too demanding on graphics.

I just finished the Steam version of the first game and couldn’t wait for the sequel to be available there as well.
If anyone’s interested I’ve already included the RTP files in the game folder and edited game.ini, so it should run smoothly on Steam Deck or other devices without needing a separate RTP installation.
Just add game.exe as a non steam game, go to properties, compatibility and choose a proton version and play.

I did extract it and opened the game, did some progress in it and saved it in game. Close the application, opened it again and it only shows the NEW GAME and not the continue option i meant.

If you really extracted the game and it still doesn't let you save and load properly, then perhaps the folder is protected (did you extract the game into a system folder...?) or you don't have enough rights to write/create anything in that folder.
Though I've never encountered this, maybe trying to move your game folder somewhere else like desktop for example, or run your game with administrator privileges will help.

I'd prefer revenge instead, grimm doesn't need redeeming as you can hardly say his moral failings come as a result of evil rather than genuine mental illness and having your mind wiped dozens of times. Anyone would turn out evil atleast once if they were repeatedly turned into a blank slate.

Not really sure what your setup is, but I have gotten various errors in RPGM games by having the game inside too many nested folders in Windows i.e when the pathname is too long. This includes saves not saving and pictures not loading and crashes.

You sure? Cause the only requirement for redhood is 0 sen, if what came out of the mirror is a monster then you might've made a mistake.
