As much as you would need to play the first Dark Souls to enjoy the third. It's up too you, it's still going to be one hell of an experience no matter what you do.

I'd say go for playing Black Souls 1 before playing this, I recommend it so everything will hit you harder.
Takamakuran Mentioned. All their games are gems.
I recommend playing all of them in chronological order as follows:
MY]R -> A New Game -> Mercenary's Adventure
Overarching lore/plot and several characters that appear in both games.
Like, BS2 is almost a direct sequel of BS1. It's like watching Star Wars Return Of The Jedi, skipping the other two films in the Trilogy.

though you could just finish the game once and use the gallery unlocker
Up to you really, compares to how deep down the rabbit hole you are aiming for. You can get a vast majority of the game by itself, but you will not notice the return cameo's and you won't get the history behind Red Hood (who is actually from an earlier game than BS1, the longest running character of the game creator and is the closest thing to the main heroine of BS2) and a certain faction in the game who played a much larger role in BS1 and may seemingly come out of left field without that context in the endings. Finally, the main villain from BS1 will be massively spoiled if you play this one first.

Sorry for the late reply. While not being direct sequels like BS1 and BS2, Takamakuran games are definitely connected. And the connection is definitely deeper than just happening in the same universe.
So, what does getting one of Alice's Spore Forest CG lock you out of?

It's not recommended if you're pathing toward certain events, because it counts toward a hidden mechanic referred to as "progression." It goes up by one anytime you beat bosses, enter certain areas, or do certain things. You can keep track of how much you progressed by looking at the torches in the library. You don't have to worry about this so much. This game encourages multiple playthroughs.
its because talking to her creates a single fog, and there things you have to do before 5 and 10. The walkthrough is careful the steps you take to get most of the NPCs routes while keeping them alive.

It'll only lock you out of 1 thing guaranteed, and that's the first cutscene you get with Holmes and the werewolf at the start, after beating the headhunting beast. That cutscene is also more important then you think, but for spoiler reasons, and it's not important until you're on your final, "real" cycle.So basically, it counts towards progression, and may lock you out of a LOT (like people getting killed and going mad)

In all honesty, I'm not a fan of that guide. The idea of "doing everything perfect on your very first cycle" feels more like a challenge run thing, then it feels like "actual advice players should follow"

So I finished Black Soul I, missed some side quests characters like Hansel & Gretel and Izu, but overall got all the endings.
Now I'm going to play part two, can someone gives me a few beginner tips like e.g
Are the chosen classes/Alice form at the beginning relevant?
Anything I should avoid in case it causes a bug etc.
