Think is, when you execute an .exe file while it's still in the compressed file, any changes need to be saved. For example, when you try to save, if you go back to the compressed file window, a pop up will mention that there have been some changes and ask you if you want to save them. If you don't, the savefile you just made WON'T be added to the compressed file.well if i was to think mybe there is a way to unzip the file in the compresed folder. i could be wrong but then you would think the saves would still work. i don't no about a lizard could have blue skin and hate odin and them lol.
Some applications don't work when launching them without decompressing the file but some others do (like The Manor and some other games) but again, ANY changes that happen and usually overwrite or update files are going to give that pop up and if you ignore or cancel it, any changes are lost. And people launching .exes without decompressing the file is nothing new, so I wouldn't be surprised if that is what's happening
