By and large, it's not about color, it's about pixelation - the background image (map) on both pictures is almost the same in resolution (even despite the color tone), but the contour lines of the character image in the game from this site (on the left) have clearly expressed aliasing, and on the screenshot on the right these lines are almost smoothed out. That's why I assumed that the sprites from which the character is "glued" in this version of the game were processed in a graphics editor and, probably, exactly when the localization was carried out (well, so as not to launch VX Ace twice).
