Thanks for the feedback and advice (followed here). ;)
You don't have permission to view the spoiler content. Log in or register now.

If you decide to play Build 0.3 when it comes out, I'd welcome any follow-up thoughts you have. And my sincere thanks for the feedback!
thanks you for taking everybody opinion in consideration , we will see if the 0.3 change mine but for now the game look very promising ( even if the update are a little too small , but it can be hard for a single dev , so I'm not complaining )

and other little advice , you can create a pool on this thread so if you want opinion of all the people on something for your game , ask them , propose multiple choices and wait for the result ;)
it's on top right , the 3 dots , clic and select "create a pool"

Yeah, you're right, Build 0.2 was somewhat small. I turned that around in about two weeks. The demo dropped on February 6 with just the prologue and chapter 1. But when I got some patrons mid-month, I felt I needed to turn something around for them as a thank you for the early show of support and still give them enough time before the end of the month to not renew if they didn't like it, so it dropped on Feb 21. Had I planned better, I'd have waited to drop 0.1 and had something larger already lined up, but... hindsight.

I had longer with Build 0.3, which more than doubled the number of images (300+) and double the dialogue/script across three chapters. The latter is going to be closer to my monthly target going forward.

Anyway, thanks again and have a great weekend.

First of all, thank you for your game, BoundByNight! I like stories with supranatural elements, and I guess a lot of people does as well. The "fantasy" genre "for adults" is surely popular. It seems to me, there will be a very balanced amount of story (even "drama") and sex, which I appreciate very much (although I am aware many people are annoyed if they cannot find their "fap material" every second render). I do appreciate also the visual variety of your characters. I think it is only good if not every male is an "example of beauty" and "model", especially in gay game/VN. The cult of the perfect body and face within certain circles is tragicomical and does make a lot of damage in general. I dare to express only one wish: please, allow a happy end for MC and do not convert him in some beast :) Thank you again!

Oh no ! happy endings are so boring ... Bad ends , slave ends or corrupted ends are the best choices

LOL. Love you guys, and super glad you’re loving the game, pilgrim!
As for endings, at a high level, I’ve got four planned that will fall across a spectrum. Within those I may place some variations of how dark or happy they are based on the different relationship scores develop. I just have to keep everything rowing in the same general direction until the end or I’ll go mad trying to manage everything.

Oh great, now it's going down the Vampire route o_O Let me guess "I need to suck your blood cock to survive, Mwahahahaaaaaa......!", thus he sucks enough cocks (a number that can depend on which guy he randomly picks that blows small or big loads) to get his ample meal for the night. :ROFLMAO: Wait!... Who's writing this story?.... certainly not me!... so I need to shut up right about now or else the Dev may just want to implement what I said into the story too (that's if he hadn't thought about it already) ;) hehe :D

LOL. I mean, it’s a pornographic game with a lot of cocks. And there’s a vampire. So...

But to survive? ‍♂

Thought I’d offer a quick update here, though you can find a more fulsome one over on Patreon (that post is public, so you don’t have to be a patron to read it).

The first draft for the script on the next update is more than 95% finished. Right now, this looks like it will roughly increase the size of the game (compared to build 0.3) by around 70% or 75%. Measured strictly in terms of lines of code, build 0.3 had just a hair less than 4K lines, including code for images/scenes/sound/etc. With dialogue alone, build 0.4 is already over 6k lines and I’m not yet done writing. (Each image adds a minimum of two more lines, and the previous build had 300+ images, or 600 lines of code...which have hardly been added at all for build 0.4.)

Further, this build is going to offer huge dumps both in terms of story and sex scenes. The MC is going to be learning a lot (though how much is accurate and can be trusted), and there will be three explicit scenes, two of which are full on sex scenes.

I have a lot of rendering to do, but this is looking like a big update and my goal is to have it out by mid or late April.

Cheers.

Please make it apk/android available?
I think there is an option to make an Android build when I do the distributions. I’ll do that when I release 0.3b in a couple weeks, though sadly I have no way to test that so I can’t guarantee how well it’ll work.

For my part I am quite divided between reluctance and a rather pleasant enough motivation concerning this game-novel ... (then I remain completely in love with the beauty of the characters and the background story)
But the fact of having multiple protagonists is very risky, it risks making many gamers/players abstain.

Thanks for the feedback, John. I think you’ll like what’s in store for Builds 0.3 and 0.4 as they focus much more on Alex.

That said, you’re not the only person who has said that. Can you (or anyone else) explain why? Whether the term is protagonist or POV character, many stories unfold from the perspective of more than one character. Can you help me understand what seems risky or a turn off about it?

To me... - it doesn't bother me at all, on the contrary, I like a lot the challenges.
On the other hand, unfortunately the vast majority of players are not very attracted to several paths at the same time ... - then this means that it will be necessary to pay at least twice much attention as usual, the vast majority desist very early in their gameplays, unfortunately for some games ...
Then sometimes there are games that are absolutely exceptional, and this fact will have destroyed them even before being finished/being designed ... - moreover I fear that it risk/might become an example of that ...
Especially nowadays, game designers and those who partner with, are forced to be careful that their games do not fall into the hands of children (I know, the irrational and irresponsible parents don't care, precisely to be able to destroy the world of games/the gaming world), which nowadays manage to interfere in adult games ... - and most often it is this latter which carry the most damage, in all senses of the word/expression.
So, I'm afraid some of those people who don't appreciate that, maybe it's kids.
Besides, unfortunately ... - there are more and more unfinished games ... (I wonder if in part is not because of that ...)

Thanks. There are definitely challenges.

Part of the reason I wanted to try it is the genre is called "Visual Novel" but is often written as a game with a single POV character. Some actual novels (many fantastic!) are also written the same way, but as compared to a video game, the VN medium more readily facilitates multiple POVs. Since it isn't something I have seen very often, I wanted to give it a try. But maybe it isn't seen very often because audiences just don't like it.

Another challenge is that because the game is still early in development and is being released iteratively, most of the audience here has only seen a single chapter from Nick's POV.

What I'm struggling to figure out is if the negative reactions are to the format (a structural problem I should address), a poorly written character that is turning people off (a narrative problem I should address in a re-write) or an impression shaped by a limited amount of time with a character who has strong feelings the audience doesn't yet understand (intentional and will be addressed as new content becomes available).

It's not really my experience ... (my professional experience in the gaming world is the old arcade games, and then a little more passive games, especially strategy games)
But I will advise you all the same, to focus first on a main road, on a main character. And then link the others to this first as the story progresses, it will keep the player's attention. - otherwise you risk making the same mistake as the vast majority of game designers.

Take good care of yourself handsome.
I make you a big hug.
LOVES
