It's calculated from your income, but the rates are not uniform and have a bunch of factors that affect them (progressive tax brackets, chapter-based rate increases, 'time pressure' increases, difficulty levels). You're not supposed to worry about the exact details, though.

Recently started playing this, and i got an original girl in the city. But she only has one zodiac tree and im unsure what else to pick.

What are your favourite combinations ? What is "powerful" I like Work and whore from the slut tree, but not really the others from the tree so im unsure.

Fox tree can double income. Maid tree can reduce expenses. Both Escort and Courtesan trees synergize with whoring to amplify it. Bride tree can cause the girls to be happier, and share their skills with each other.

I think Escort has been considered near-mandatory for whores?

Slut has some nice perks for whoring. Open Mind is good to get a reluctant girl started. Next is okay. Me So Horny is quite good.

Both Model and Courtesan have nice capstones, unless your girl is Elite.

Player is good for jobgirls.

Fox is very unreliable (4% chance of double income at best), and the other perks in that tree aren't particularly good. Plus, multiple Foxes don't stack well (there is a +150% cap on brothel income boosts).

Bride is a support tree that does not really synergise with working much, barring Virgin Whore.

Maid is kinda the red-headed stepchild of the perk system. Hardworking may be useful.

I find the 'shares JP' thing, and the 'teaches girls with lower skills' thing useful. Train her without having her work until she's got her skills cranked way up, and then cycle her through every job.

I never said Bride is not useful. It's just not a tree that makes your girl better at her job.

Yeah. I tend to look at the whole operation, rather than a single girl at a time. Probably why I consider bride to be as directly helpful as the rest.

+1 security for free lowers operating expenses and reduces risk of girls being injured. +1 making friends helps to keep morale up, which seems to be useful just in general. And of course the JP share helps all the girls get bonuses for job ranks.

Looks like a messed up installation, since the game never gets to setting up the quest board.

Are you sure you've installed the Feb+ version of the base game?

Your error with 'NPC' object has no attribute 'quests'
is a result of the game initialization being interrupted by an error before reaching weekly updates. Will go away if other previous error avoided.

Make sure you have installed some girlpacks, and check the FAQ if you got a message about "persistent.girl_mix".

Keep an eye on startup when running program, catch the first error and copy that traceback.txt to a post here, inside spoiler quotes.

Jokes aside, yes. If you also remove girls, the game will prompt you about changed girl mixes, so make sure to manage things according to your save's mix(es).

The change won't be immediate, but any new girl generation will use your updated mix(es): slave market updates and free girl cycling on Mondays, HH at any time, raider generals after getting rid of the last one, etc.

The exact calculations are supposed to be arcane and not easily knowable. But one major factor is the amount of income brought in by your brothel. The more you earn, the higher the tax.
