You can reboot your brain all you want, in the meantime, we shall refresh while pressing F5 until it's ready.

PS: Just joking, take your time and don't burn yourself out.

Sorry to announce guys, for whatever reason my would be partner scutter has gone radio silent. We were planning to collab on the twine file and send it back and forth beyond eachother but I never got the start from them. For whatever reason they're also ignoring any messages I send. I'm not that great at twine dev however I'm willing to try and learn so while I will continue to try revive this game it may take a little while longer than originally planned. My apologies.

Expect nothing and you'll never be disappointed
I've never put much stock into dreams. This hiccup has only just delayed what I was originally planning to do regardless. Having someone help with the coding side would've helped free up my hands since I'm quite busy irl however even before scutter volunteered I was working towards figuring these things out. That is to say, I'll never make bold claims like "it's my dream to bring this back" or what have you but actions exist and I was already acting towards bringing this back. What's lost can be gained back.

I’m a new developer and I’m thrilled to share that I’m planning to embark on a fan remake of the beloved game ‘Casting Director’. For me, this project will not only be a fantastic opportunity to hone my development skills, but it also aims to bring back to life a game that many of us hold dear.

As a fan of the original, I’ve always appreciated the unique blend of creativity and strategy that ‘Casting Director’ offered. Huge shout-out to the original developer, Old Dirty Dog, for crafting such an engaging experience! It's a shame that the game has been somewhat forgotten over the years, and I believe there's a community out here that would love to see it revived.

I’m really eager to hear your thoughts and support on this idea! If this post gets more than 300 likes, I’ll take it as a signal that there's enough interest in reviving ‘Casting Director’ and I'll kick off the development process! Your feedback and encouragement mean a lot, so please feel free to share your favorite moments from the game or any ideas you’d love to see in the remake.

Thanks for your time, and let's bring back 'Casting Director' together!

With all respect, you should really make a decision to start a project like a remake of this game all by yourself. It never works out well when people are motivated by likes. Unless you yourself have a compelling drive to see this project through, it is doomed from the start. Social media type likes are fleeting and noncommittal: they basically mean nothing.

What I'm saying is, if you end up not starting the project merely because of something as ephemeral and random as "not getting X likes", then you weren't particularly serious in the first place. And more to the point, if you do start the project, but only because you got X number of likes, then chances are not looking good you'll progress very far before losing interest.

My advice is for you to instead find yourself a passion project where you know in your heart that the only thing that matters is your own satisfaction. Then start THAT project regardless of whether anyone else is interested or not :)

Thank you for your thoughtful response! I really appreciate your perspective. While I understand your concerns about motivation based on likes, I want to clarify that my primary drive for this project comes from genuine passion and enthusiasm. The likes served as a gauge for community interest in an abandoned project that I care deeply about.

It's encouraging to hear that others are still excited about it, and it reassures me that my efforts won't go unappreciated. I'm committed to bringing something worthwhile to life, and I believe that blending my passion with community interest can create something truly special.

Thanks again for your advice; it's always helpful to have these conversations! I'll keep pushing forward with this in mind.

Many want to see this game completed.

This game exists, albeit in an uncompleted state. It's its own thing with unresolved plot threads that the dev (presumably) had some idea of where they wanted to go.

If you want to create something, go off and do your own thing. If you want to take inspiration from this game for it, cool, but let it stand on its own feet and by its own merits.

I completely understand your perspective, and I want to emphasize that I have a lot of respect for the original game and its unique qualities. My aim is to create a standalone fan remake that honors what it established while also expanding on its concepts. I believe there’s a lot of potential to explore those unresolved plot threads and bring something new to the table. I appreciate your input and will make sure to keep the original's integrity in mind as I move forward!

From what I remember about Casting Director, you could have a relatively different story in the long-run (not very different since the present game occured in a relatively short time span, but the intention seems to be there). Your choices meant that you could go as toxic and powerdrunk as you'd expect, but there was also a possibility to go on a more positive, less revenge-driven experience and have some relatively positive relationships and maybe even get a redemption arc for some characters in the future *cough* Chechik *cough*, whether they were as colleagues, friends or maybe something more. Is your goal with this game to focus on every available path this game had? Or do you plan to focus on a more specific (linear) path?

if you see potential in the premise and have an interest in building the game then do it. Actions speak louder than words, if you had come to this thread with a version of this game you envision ready to share and play you would have your 300 likes guaranteed. Instead you come here, begging for attention on the empty promise that you *might* work on the game. I also understand the optics of how it looks, me the guy who said I would work on picking up the game where it dropped and releasing a new update, shitting on the new guy who says he'll do the same thing. I'm not saying this out of envy. If you want to work on a remake or just straight up take over, hell I'm happy to hear it. But it's like the others say, you've got your order of operations wrong. You can't come here and ask people to like your post like this is some tweet in 2014 on the promise you'll do something. This is a forum that rewards action, so take action or don't. There is no middle point.

I also feel bad for being a bit harsh so if you want a writer to help you with your "vision", I'll gladly lend my pen.

The core of this game is enabling the sleazy self-serving producer cliché. To the point it yucked the original author out. That's the value proposition here.

If the new guy intends to turn the reboot into something the game isn't, he's much better off just creating a brand new game. He could even call his new game "Casting Director". It's not as if trademark law - or laws in general - applies around here... Just don't claim something is a remake when it doesn't do the same thing or scratch the same itch; that's a bad idea that will only generate needless badwill for the author!
