Okay, posting this just after a fire alarm, lol. Figured like a good break point :p

This was a very good week, a lot done on all fronts. Really nice to finally have all that move stuff finally behind me. Now sitting at 730 renders 44 animations with another 4 also setup but still need to be rendered. I also did hours of post work today that I had neglected for the past while, so nice to get that out of the way. Also, back in the full swing on the writing front as well.

So yes, very good week :) Finally back to normal!

Going to do the poll tomorrow for this months custom set as well, so be on the lookout for that. Going to put the side characters against up on that one.

I'm not sure what else to say lol. I think I will enjoy a beer :p

As always guys stay awesome!

Philly

Hell yeah, brother !!(y) He's not one of the best tho, he's THE best dev and COBD THE best game in terms of visuals, sexy ladies and story IMHO. Sadly, his professionalism, passion and dedication ain't contagious so certain devs can contract them. Supporters would finally get their money's worth if fuck knows why they still don't want to pay ppl like Philly.

Now that would be one hell of an outbreak. Imagine what the human race would accomplish.:)

Ya I will say I am a big proponent of "Being A DIK", but this game honestly rivals it directly - it doesn't sound like CoBD will be as long as BaD (I sure wish it was, though), but I find the women in CoBD more intriguing (not to mention, hotter), I think they are more interesting, and honestly I think Philly's sex scenes are better, which I didn't think I'd be saying. The scenes with Chandy & Shanlon are off the rails fantastic.

I'd say as far the development goes, they are proper devs unlike 90% of all the others games here on F95. I really wished more devs were like them and did they best for the fanbase supporting them, as most devs just render stuff without much of a plan aside from making un-original lewd scenes. We need more tier S story narratives games

The big difference is that they somehow got lucky to achieve a big enough fan crowd to turn this into a professional indie developer job. So don't go around claiming the vast majority of game developers around don't know what they are doing.
There are a lot of good games out here if you start looking.

Maybe some of those devs you mention are on the stages of Acting Lessons and Depraved Awakening, games that were already high quality but each dev surpassed it with their currently project to the point where they are top dogs in this VN genre. My point was mostly good devs respect their audience but there's a shit ton of bad devs whom want a solid income from patreon and them proceed deliever nothing worthy on note. Other blantly lie and in the end leave their fanbase with nothing but empty promises, other dont evolve and just give lewd scenes for the sake of it. There's very little game I found they are worth more than just fappy material and are good honest devs, and its surely not the vast majority.

I'm sure most devs are honest but simply unexperienced people who think a)making games is easier than it really is, and b)making money through lewd games is easier than it really is. Those factors combined lead to the myriad of abandoned projects and unfilfilled promises you complain about. But I bet in a 95% of cases the initial idea is to become one of the greatest devs around, offering a good product and respect their audience. Then they simply fail to achieve their goals for many different reasons. Some people just don't know their own abilities and limitations.

What's really needed is some relationship progress with Gloria. Oh, and a threesome with Chandra & Abby.
This game needs a Red_Moon killing someone in the most brutal way cybernetically possible scene. Kleo is a great candidate.
The important stuff  But really it's a small minority that wants that other stuff although I have noticed it's becoming one of those fetishes that seem to get shoehorned into some games like NTR and Incest for once I'd just like a normal game without all that silliness and so far CoBD has done that apart from that one issue.

Last time i will delve into this because of the off topic nature.
Con artists like icstor are the exception not the rule. You need to play more games if you think otherwise.

Luck? Not even close. There's a ton of effort required to build enough of a backing to make a go of this type of development.

If you create a game (any quality really), and solely hope for traction by setting up a patreon and only using this place as visibility for your game....then yes....you'd have to get "lucky" for anything to happen....and your chances are VERY slim.

The guys that are successful put WAY more effort outside of that though. They get their games visibility on their own websites...pornhub videos...steam...cross promotion with more established devs...et al. That is the only way to grow a legitimate revenue base.

Even this sites favorite punching bag ICSTOR has a steady stream of patreons. That isn't by accident and the disdain here has NO bearing on his income.

True dat. Nobody gets "lucky" to make it big without hard work and without proving what he's got, but I guess that in our case we can call this small group of individuals who fuck knows why are still getting paid for not doing anything or for getting bored of their projects really lucky bois but also very clever businessmen. Yeah, they lucky to have... an interesting fanbase.

You see the difference between Philly and most of the devs RC-1138 Boss ?? I don't mean to insult the rest of the devs in the business, there's devs that work their asses off for their fans, I'm just stating obvious facts, like everybody else. IIRC Philly said it himself that at some point he wanted to abandon DA, it didn't make money. So yeah, hard work and dedication do the job. Without stuff like that there wouldn't have been a Michael Jordan, a LeBron James, a Leo Messi, a Cristiano Ronaldo etc. (name your favorite). They all started from the bottom and reached the top. Add our boi Philly to the list.

I 100% agree with everything these fine gentlemen said, plus even Philly had it rough in the beginning. Just listen to that he made for his fans, not to mention how tiring this work is for him (and for devs in general).

Even this sites favorite punching bag ICSTOR has a steady stream of patreons. That isn't by accident and the disdain here has NO bearing on his income.
Well said again. If there wasn't an f95 website, ICSTOR and Scamdrop would be jobless or they'd be having a normal job like everybody else, even worse, they'd actually work. Professionalism and communication are the other aspects you should add next to a successful AND serious dev, scammers aside.

So if anybody else want to call ppl like Philly lucky just bcz they know how to be professionals and know how to the their job, go ahead, they lucky, but I hope u realize that winning a shitload of money JUST by being a lucky dude is the kinda shit that happens only at lottery. RL doesn't reward u if u have nothing to show !!

You people seem to be under the impression he is alone (or quite) on doing that, which is simply not true.

Several developers around here do the same. Having their own websites, blogs, twitter or reddits or doing propaganda for each other on patreon to help spread awareness over their games. Also alternative ways of payment like subscribestar or even steam, that today accept pretty much any game (apart from the landlady/shota/loli types).

And while some are able to make big a lot still aren't despite doing that. So why isn't their hard work and dedication rewarded too if that is a fact?
So yeah he got lucky to be able to attract such a big fanbase after doing all that while others did not had the same outcome. Hard work isn't always rewarded in real life...

If I'm not mistaken (somebody pls correct me if I do) he's solo on this project, renders, coding and script. He could have proofreaders to help and beta testers to check the game for bugs, but I think he's doing all the work by himself.

That's the question I keep asking myself every time I look at ICSTOR and Gumdrop's income (at some "successful" ppl too) after one big facepalm. Why ?? Ppl like those two games and are fanatics about it ?? But I guess the most logical and ontopic answer is Life's not fair or some like to believe that pigs can fly.

I repeat, I respect the work all those hard-working devs put into making their game while getting not even 1/4 of what other "still in development" projects make. It's sad, I agree with u, but patrons have their own preferences, kinks and shit like that and they choose to spend their money how they want ... apparently more on delays, empty promises and cheap scams. Nothing to be done about that, unless Patreon starts a moral crusade to fix it, you can't do anything about it but support the other devs who keep their promises and actually work on their games.

That's the specific reason why Philly is so popular and why fans love his work.

I was talking about the idea that Philly is one of the only few doing hard work to promote his game and is being rewarded because of that. Which downplays all the other developers doing the same hard work but which weren't able to "make big".

Icstor is old ( when compared to most other devs around here), he is doing games for more than 5 years now. Maybe he was benefited from a time when patreon was new as a way to support western porn games. Still quite amazing that he can go almost one year with nothing but empty promises and still keep such a big fanbase. No idea about Gumdrop.

He does have a proofreader and consultant on writing. There is also a small beta tester team (including yours truly). But yes.....solo dev as far as art, coding, bulk of script... etc.
