Hey guys, is there something wrong with me? I just finished Chapter 2, and while I find the setting and plot line interesting for sure, I just don't feel immersed and invested to where I feel a strong desire to continue.

If I don't feel deeply compelled by Chapter 2, would you say this game is not for me? I tried it because I fell in love hard with Being a DIK, and the two are often compared.

that depends on what path you chose and what are you after on avns.

That comparison is made quite often, but it should be read only in terms of production quality. The games are quite different so it's pretty normal to like one but not the other

I honestly don't know who would compare those two games. They are completely different genres and take very different approaches to the way the story and lewd scenes are delivered. This one is far more focused on a solid plat where as BaD is more about the mystery/drama. BaD also puts much more emphasis on the lewd content than this one so if that is what draws you to these things than it may not be for you. Not every game appeals to every person after all.

A lot of people compared the 2 games on their technical aspects, but you are right about the rest.

Exactly. Some people just want sex. Others want story and don't feel the need or the obligation to actually read what's written.

I started playing both at the same time about 2.5 years ago. I dropped DIK mainly because I'd be about 50 or so once it's finished, and don't feel like waiting three years before it's finished.

I adore CoBD. I love the story, the setting, renders, lighting, and the lewds with Katie, but the game itself is downright gorgeous. There hasn't been any other game I've played VN wise that sucks me in so much and every update I get so excited for.

This game withstood my 15+ game VN purge (as it shows in my sig) over the last week and it's always the first one I recommend to people.

Everyone has their own tastes, but this one fulfills all of mine.

Thanks guys. Yeah, I sort of started picking up on the games being completely different.

But basically, removing all porn aspects of City of Broken Dreamers, and evaluating it basically as a non-porn visual novel, do you think someone who hasn't felt emotionally invested in the first two Chapters might feel differently beyond that?

Honestly, I don't play this game for the porn. And the game really clicked for me during the video at the end of Chapter 3, with the music and all. I'd say keep playing till chapter 4 (included) as that's when the plot thickens. Then, if you are not feeling it, don't sweat it. Life is short enough to waste your time trying to force yourself through something you aren't enjoying.

It might be. At this point, the story barely started, potential LI have just been introduced and the lore may be a bit confusing. Everything moves on and gets bigger the next two chapters.

Got it!! Thank you for this answer. It's very helpful. Maybe I've just been too tired or something.

I think I remember myself being somewhat more engaged during all the worldbuilding of Chapter 1 compared to the Chapter 2 string of conversations and running back and forth to fetch stuff.

EDIT: Also, maybe the player character here takes a little more time settling into, compared to Being a DIK. I can remember being young, going off to college (or your first adult adventure for that matter), dealing with early heartbreak, betrayal, and falling in love. I fell into the player character's shoes immediately.

It's a bit tougher jumping into the mind of a grizzled, divorced and traumatized super agent who hates his former employer and is on the verge of washing out. Yes, human emotion is universal, and there has to be something in there for anyone to connect with, but this role just takes a little more time I think.

I'll give Chapter 3 (and maybe 4) a go and let you guys know!

Just finished Chapter 3.

I definitely was not bored.

Starting immediately on Chapter 4! I really hope to become bros with Henry. Thank you guys for the encouragement!
It's okay to joke with Henry and definitely call his bluff when given the opportunity. Henry can easily be a friend, just be respectful, don't purposefully pick a fight with him, be sweet to Gloria and Henry is your bro. As for the ladies, Katie is my number one but I love most of the girls here and play ball with them all! Gloria, Ellen, Sonya, Abby and Chandra are all on top with Katie.

In case you haven't figured this out yet... you will need to play several times to unlock all of the options and scenes. There are some specifics in the preceding pages but generally, you can unlock most of the content by romancing all of the girls above in a single play. I recommend one play concentrating on Ellen where you do not have sex with Victoria. There are additional benefits from doing that. You will need two plays with Victoria to unlock all of her options, one high score (at least 6) and the other where you allow Vic to place you under her spell and follow her plan. Following Victoria's plan will tank your score with Gloria and both Victoria plays will block options with Ellen but not all. You can still have Ellen, just not all her options if you have sex with Victoria in the same play.

Okay... those are a few hints without giving any actual spoilers. There are several of us here that are willing and able to help if you have difficulty unlocking some of the options. Most are fairly evident. Be as mean as you want with Meredith and take every opportunity to degrade Shanlon you have available. Last piece of advice... Save when presented with a choice. That way you can revisit and play another story angle without restarting. You can do this to unlock certain scenes in some cases without taking the score hit that those choices have with the other girls. Take all paths presented to you like going to the party with all the optional girls. In Ellen's play take Ellen, in Victoria's play take here and take Katie in another play as well. There is another split like that before going to a place called "The Pit." Take Ellen during her play, take Abby to find out more about the place and those who dwell there and take Sonya to blow the place to hell! Hahahahaha :devilish: (y) Still no official spoilers. Just some helpful hints. Enjoy, my friend:cool:(y) IMHO, Philly Games is the best AVN dev in the business. You may also enjoy Depraved Awakening, Philly's first game, which is already completed and available here and on Steam. I've played dozens, maybe hundreds of AVN titles now. Philly is my favorite.

Adventure ever on, Phat:cool:(y)

Thank you guys so much!!! I just finished Chapter 4.

Phat your post should be saved in a wiki somewhere!

Victoria's probably my favorite, but I've declined her advances all three times, as I didn't want us to get involved under duress. However, given the setting and roles of the characters, I'm guessing that won't ever actually be possible.

Like I said... you will want two plays to unlock every option with Victoria. She's a real wildcat in the sack! I can't blame you for wanting her. I just don't know if we can trust her. I'll leave that decision up to you. Since you do like Victoria, you could start with your high score play with her and replay from there. So, feel free to back up before you meet her and take advantage of Victoria. You will end up with two plays centered around her anyway just to unlock all her scenes. You may want to take a second look at my message above. I revised and edited it a bit.

Since you are new to Philly Games... one last helpful hint. There is a hidden score called Depravity. Some of the more hardcore options like anal and bdsm require a minimum of 2 depravity. That can be confusing with no way to track that but just cuss out Meredith twice when you first meet her and you are covered. She's a total cunt and deserves evil things to happen to her. If there were an option to leap over the desk and slap her smug mug I'd try that too.:devilish: There are other ways to regain those points later if you are too much of a nice guy and loose one or both of those points but I play this MC as super sweet to Katie and Gloria and salty dog to the other girls... with hints of sweet and sour sauce with Abby. Oh... and fuck Venus all you like. She's like a freebie. It's a good idea to share the love with multiple girls. There is no penalty for hate fucking Shanlon that I can see either. So, feel free to take your frustrations out on her. She actually enjoys it the sick, twisted bitch! That is also one of the options to increase depravity score. Same goes for when Shanlon introduces you to Teri later on... Mwah Hahaha :devilish:

Anyway... I've rambled on enough for now. I leave it to you to uncover all the sweetness of Katie, Gloria and Abby, the spice of Ellen and Sonya and the wonderful combination of class and kink that is Victoria. Oh... and, fuck wiki. I freely share with friends here. Let the public figure this shit out on their own! Hahahahahahahahaha:ROFLMAO: Thanks for the compliment though. I did take the wiki remark as a compliment. It's just more my speed to converse with friends here rather than put together some vast walkthrough thing... There are others with those skills and interests. Peace;)

Adventure ever on my friend, Phat:cool:(y)
