Not very, and it lets you know which locations advance the story with which character. A little grind, especially early on, but not like some.

It's a true sandbox, but at the same time the story is great and the pathing is really well done, and really the only "grind" is waiting for events to open up. There's no day-after-day grind for stats/money/items/etc.

Also, it comes with it's own help guides, and easy ability to enable/disable any character you're not interested in/change your mind about. And so far, while there is some crossover between characters, no one character's path cancels out any other character's path (there is even some crossover content that you don't need to be doing all of both character's content to get.)

I don't think of it as a sandbox at all, you click the picture of the character you want to do, then it's a VN pretty much, then it goes back to a menu type display pick another character and repeat.

There is not really a grind either, its not like you need to get the money to go on the dates first, it just happens.
Its more a pick your adventure kinda game tbh
