Does anyone know if it's possible to change my character's name in this game? I was playing a translated version of the game and typed in non English words for my character so when I started the English version my character's name just shows up as a few empty square spaces.

No, you can't change the name in the original designed game...
However, there two options: Either you change the name in all files or you create a mod which replace MC's name with your selected name (from your mod).
