And I am not sure if people here are just sensitive but are Kitsune really that bad? That barbarian thing is usually only used in sexual foreplay which I like (I can not even remember instances where that word was used). And outsider is not really that derogatory considering you are first one to be welcomed there. And even then, being an outsider is not always presented as a con in his writing. This can be best seen in your interaction with kinu where you being someone that is not a (born) kitsune allows you to see things from different perspective.
I wouldnt exactly say the Kitsunes are bad, but it's always the same xenophobia in these Japan analogues that just plain gets boring, even if the whole Sakoku mess was a large part of their history. I think a new take would've been cool, even if it might stray away from the influence of Edo Japan

Dunno, man / sir / dude / gurl / lady... IMO, they're bad.

Badly written as an offensive (and outdated) caricature of sensitive issues, seen thru a lens that tries to justify their asshole-ish behaviour.

It's that jarring, because the ones who aren't bad are either not-racist fucks or a copycat of a better character.

I mean, can I ask you a question, how much are they racist (kitsunes as characters themselves)? Are they high and mighty? To some extent, yes. Maybe to a little extent, but frankly, I do not see it as such a big character flaw to get all uppity about it. Again, most of there remarks (do not bring Nakano up here, I said most) are of playful kind. And that is how most of fictional "Characters of great blod line that streaches several millennia" act. Frankly, I do not see it as such a big character flaw to get all uppity about it. Like, maybe it is me never being at the end of (major) racist/xenophobic remarks, but that does not seem that bad. Now you can argue, that them using that term to begin it, how ever small it may sound, makes them worst people and you being expected to like them is to big pill to swallow. This is where I will agree with you that "IMO" is really only way I can justify that to you. To me, there action such as welcoming you inside of there house (after you have beaten there ass, as it should be), giving you means to trade with them and access to there holy grounds seems to speak more about them than there use of term such us "you person that is not from here". At least to me.

That is how people usually write there cultures, be they japanese or not. Rome is big and great (when you take out all caviats and actual, you know, problems with it), Athenes is full of smart and cultured people and so on and so on. But yeah, it does get tiering to see it. But as I said, I do not have problem with them or there concept. Now I am not that versed in Japanese culture. I only have some knowledge from anime/manga, books and some documentaries on it. But I do consider it an OK representation of some part of it, even if it just above skin deep. A lot of stuff, such as bathing etiquette, clothing and some parts of culture are so prominent in media. And I do not feel that you need to be that deep into a culture to represent it in your fiction. Now to criticize it, that is another thing. And I do feel there is something new in here, considering that Kitsune that we interact here are as much of an outsider to there own as we are to them. Them being part of a back water colony, as they call it, makes for some interesting conversations and such. While it still gets looped around to having to deal with honor and all that jizz, If it written enough to please me, I honestly can not explain. But honestly, I would like you to be more specific in your problems with it, since a lot of comments here feel vague.

Ignoring the weirdness about their whole xenophobia only being like 100% justified (because you're an outsider who just beat the shit out of all their leaders and then started fucking nobility) or completely ridiculous because you're the chosen of their god, I just wish literally any other culture was used.

Why does it always have to be japan in these sort of things? Even just having the same generic xenophobia in a way less cliche group would make it feel way more interesting, to me at least. Take inspiration from morrowind or something, add something that actually feels alien instead of just "dude what if we added samurai?"

Do have to agree that a porn game is a weird vessel for the topic as a whole though, like they can be as snotty about it as they like, we all know they're gonna be fuckable eventually.

I just fundamentally find it annoying to have to read essay-length scenes about Kitsune culture to get my dick wet in fluffy tails. Put that stuff in like, an optional talk you can have with the den mother, or a library where you can read about their culture (with maybe both insider and outsider perspectives).

Miss me with an entire novel-chapter length political scene of freeing MY fox wife from the prison THEY put her in only to be summarily shunted aside while the foxes talk to each other before I can have MY fox wife who is designed, fundamentally, to be a fetish-pleaser for preggo folks, literally a self-insert level of "this fox milf is all over your dick and yours only" come along with me as a companion.

tl;dr I don't like the Kitsune(s?) because I think Tobs is trying to inset an entire VN worth of plot and themes into a single sidequest portion of a different person's porn game, and I don't like Tobs because his response to even the slightest criticism is to shit his metaphorical pants and tell people they just don't 'Get it'.

You can skip all of it. The only exception I think is Rindo for you to get to those sex scenes. Shrine whores basically indulge in prospect of fucking you before talking to you. Brother, only dialogue that is somewhat required for you to understand what is going on is Kiyokos "I need you to dick me down so that I could escape from this golden cage so that someone could fuck our daughter". Basic request men, basic request.

Weebs are numerous. And thinking of new culture is hard. Using a culture that people have general idea about is allowing the author to skip most of the leg work when it comes to world building. Everyone knows what Japan is and they have basic understanding of how there society works/ has worked. So woala. And there culture is also distinct enough to feel exotic to westerners while also being familiar enough with our values to not be to alienating.

You asked people to give their reasons, I gave mine. You breaking those reasons down and rebutting them is on your decision to defend the game, not me failing to do as you asked.
But you are simply wrong, so I can do that. You do not need to read it to get some tail. Now would it help you understand somethings? Yes, that is how stories go. But even then, a lot of that writing that Tobs put is just there to complete some basic character requirements.

Umm, shot in the dark... Is there a way to fix the a seaweave item no longer giving immunity from Sunder error with the save editor, or any other way in general? At first I liked the added challenge and reason to use the Seaweave Cape, but now it's getting in the way.

If you removed all weebs you'd remove half the internet! Then all that'd be left are the furries and the feet-lovers.

PS:

Tired: Japanese tropes

Wired: Ming China Tropes.

Broke: Kitsune

Woke: Huli Jing

I tend to just skip text-walls of Kitsune and go for the smut honestly, maybe that's why i don't really hate any of them? (except Takahiro that drunk Self-Insert OC can just fuck off) so yeah the whole "Outsideeeeeeerrrrrr!" Tobs Boner? i don't even deal with it, tend to be fucking just Kuroka on the wolds or Kohaku on her shop whom are the most likeable foxes IMO

Now on to another subject: first time ever using a character whose summons are worth shit, any suggestions on what's the best summon? so far only have the Flame Elemental and i know ya get the wolf from the witch on the moving house, but are there others/anything better?

So i just did Gweyr's quest (what's made thus far at least) and...did anyone else thought you could beat ALL the demons if you do the distraction route? XD no joke i went there HARD (Quinn & Bimbo Azzy as partners, Playing a Whitemage as the Team's Support with Boltering Dance, Group Healing, Allure, Summon Fire Elemental and Revive) and we just killed enemies till they ran out of letters (Beyond shit like "Cultist Z appears") and were into the gamma/beta symbols and i was like "Aight, clearly they're endless horde, imma head out" i'm just slightly dissapointed is not like the Barfight in the Orc Camp where you can actually beat them all with a decent combo, was hoping to do that.

How do you get bimbo Azzy as a companion?

You do her whole quest, purify the hive (you'll get to keep the slightly corrupted gem) then take that gem to the Orc Blacksmith in Hawkethorne, he tells you to take it to the Goblin Seasmtress, she'll make a choker with the gem for like 500 Coins, done, now you can make Azzy a bimbo by switching her gear at will.

I always wondered why they used Japan but I think I know the answer and you know the answer too.

Tobs is a weaboo. Most poeple who have interest in niche writing porn games like this are weaboos. Weaboos are very common on the dark sides of the net.

You could ask hey dude why not choose like a billion other cultures which are just as interesting and rich, but did they make anime?

No. I didn't think so. It just serves to further prove that the kitsune are just some dude's shallow ass japanophilia hidden behind a thin veil of supposed criticism of their history.

I do like the fox-wife, if not for all the other cringe surrounding her.

I mean, you don't have to read any of the writing in this game and then you would only be left with the sex scenes I guess. Still, what if you want some plot with that porn? I say that because some writing I kinda skip through to get to the "juicy" parts, but with odd writing like TObs I mostly skip ahead because it feels almost out of place and frankly, annoying and a little painful. To give a better critique I'd have to replay the kitsune storyline and I don't know if I want to do that again.

In the end, I'm just asking that the writing not make me feel like I'm in something... annoying? Uncomfortable? Weird? Rude? Something I can't place right now.
