Sweet Jesus have mercy, I am absolutely aching to have another playthrough of this game... But it hasn't even been that long since my last one! I crave the satisfaction of another replay, but with the next major update just a few months away, I know for a fact that I will enjoy it a lot more if I just wait.

...Patience, however, has never been a strong point of mine. So this is pure torture for me! Oh, the misery us bored nerds who enjoys AVNs have to endure at times, eh lads?

Hi, I have chosen the most popular KINETIC NOVEL on this site to ask a question to the community.

I mean no disrespect to the author(s).

I'm on the bipolar spectrum, and I sometimes ask questions... a lot.

So why call this type of work "kinetic"? For me, it's an obvious MISNOMER. The word "kinetic" is greek in origin meaning (hopefully I'm not wrong) dynamic, moving (parts) etc. For a visual novel without choices, which is my understanding of the accepted meaning of the term "kinetic novel", if it's me reading sense into the description, i would imagine a "kinetic" novel to be one that required input and responded appropriately. But it's not, is it? It's more like a static (the opposite of kinetic) or passive work. Mmmm?

Don't (always) accept what others tell you. Think for yourself. Labels are accepted meanings conjured by imperfect humans. Dream a little!

Good luck with you game, devs :)

[sorry, this has been troubling me for a while]
like others mentioned, kinetic is being used in its adj form, being motion. the plot of a kinetic novel moves forward without interuption. it lacks choices or branches that deviate the plot and story telling.

Which is exactly what I like about this game. I'm sick and tired of all these branching overcomplicating plots where you nearly always need a gude or a mod to get the satisfactory ending.
I mean, I understand the guys who want to play this game over and over again, but for me the life is too short and there are other good games, so I'd like to get all the best in one go. Which this game nicely provides to me.

Hey guys, it's that time again!

I imagine many of you have already heard, as it's been all over the internet, but it's been a rough couple of weeks for adult game development! For those of you that haven't: a combination of activists and payment processors have been working together to purge adult games from itch.io and Steam, and have, unfortunately, had a certain measure of success.

For the rest of this post I'm going to focus on itch.io, as that's the main distribution platform for Cosy Cafe. To cut a long story short, all adult games were completely delisted from the site around 10 days ago, without any warning or communication with devs, and with no indication about when they would return.

As you can imagine, this caused quite a lot of anxiety for developers, myself included, as while my support predominantly comes from all of you generous souls on Patreon and Subscribestar, itch is a vital part of the ecosystem for getting new eyes on the project. Without it, support would inevitably start to wither over time as people's circumstances change, or they move on to other things.

Now, cutting to the end a little before I give you the impression that things are too dire: after 8 days of delisting, itch recently returned most free adult games to the site, Cosy Cafe included. The main target of their purge was incest and non-consensual content, which, as you all know, isn't what Cosy Cafe is about. So, for the moment at least, things are somewhat back to normal; however, there are further restrictions and rules coming down the pipeline that we haven't been given the details of at this point, so we're not fully out of the woods yet, either.

Throughout all of this, I've received a lot of messages from concerned players wondering what this means for the future development of Cosy Cafe, and the answer is actually: Not that much. As I said earlier, the main source of support for the game is you guys, and there are more than enough of you to keep me developing for a good few years, even if the game did get booted from itch. So, as long as Patreon and Subscribestar are still here, you don't have to worry about development being stopped by such things! (Although there were a few days where I didn't get much work done for focusing on all this crap!)

And that leads me into the (short) progress update for the dev log: rendering work has been proceeding largely as planned, with another 260 renders added to the pile! It's much too early to give an exact release date, and normally I don't at this point in development, but I have one in my head, so what the hell: I'm aiming for October 4th. That's a very preliminary prediction, though, so don't hold me to it!

And that about does it for this dev log. If you have any questions or concerns about the above, feel free to leave them in the replies here or on Discord.

As always, thank you all for your support, and I'll talk to you again in a couple of weeks!

I guess maybe there are some preparations for the council meeting on Tuesday. Some random school-goers? Danny's goons? will help MC to deal with it

Who the shit are these nerds?
This image looks like Alison is talking to a number of the FF functionaries that run each of the FF weekly meetings.

The Fletcher Family is responsible for hosting the next FF weekly meeting and it makes sense that the functionaries want to understand how he is hosting the meeting (does not have the huge mansion - some things need to be adapted to the location) so that they can support it properly. It is the first time for the Fletcher Family hosting this event in decades.

Cheers!! :coffee:

I suggest Dev to consider advertising SFW version of game just for itch. Less bare tits, no strait porn angles, more erotic and innuendo in that place. Or even just butcher all h- scenes and call it Teen/Demo version. It will chase away some coomer audience, sure, but if story continues being fun, it will may be replaced novel fans. And, sure, it is more work, but that s just option for him to consider if he wants to secure itch.io.

I do enjoy sitcom, drama and innuendo scenes, here, really.

As for council meeting on Tuesday, i think Takamura family more likely will help. As reconciliation. Akatsuki dad will be pleased to gain influence in families, and MC got to swallow some pride if he wishes to remain neutral and independent from other big heads.

I think that's in fact very feasible for this particular game. Very few if any new renders would be needed for that, just some removals and a few text changes. This could actually be implemented as a patch created by us, the community, and given to Cosy for free so he has next to no effort with the implementation. He would just have to change the itch.io page for the game accordingly. Then for each new version, look over the patch to see there is nothing obviously wrong or malicious with it, apply it, and upload it.

It might be a good idea to change the title in order to cleanly separate the SFW and NSFW versions. Maybe call the SFW version "Cosy Household". Maybe even go a step further and publish it as "Peaceful Pizzeria" under the new name "Peaceful Producer".

I would totally play a SFW version of Cosy Cafe if it was the only one available. That is true for only a handful of absolutely top AVNs. (If the current situation were to lead to a wave of excellent SFW visual novels that have optional NSFW extensions, then it could actually cause AVNs to improve over all.)

I have actually been considering this. Was thinking it would be called something along the lines of Cosy Cafe: Romance Edition. It would need a bit more thought put into it, but I think it's definitely viable, and might be a worthwhile safety net to have in these uncertain times. The main drawback is that I think a lot of the punishment scenes would need to be replaced, too, not just the sex scenes, if it were to avoid all of the same pitfalls of being an adult game that the main version runs into.

I'm wondering if you could get away with posting it on your main itch account as a separate project compared to the nsfw version. If they did anymore delisting then it would at the very least give people a way to click your profile and find the version they wanted while also letting you still plug your Patreon and SS. I've seen one dev who did that.

Even if you develop a SFW version of this visual novel, you'll still eventually attract curious puritians that went the extra mile in finding out what your original idea truly is of this visual novel and thus the cycle contineus. Never underestimate these crazy people. They really have nothing going on in their lives and they only like ruining other people's lives. That's why I don't think it's truly a good idea into giving in into these kind of people. I can understand your consideration, but yeah.

I think an alternative option and caution really won't hurt... these days never cease to amaze and it's getting worse, it's better to be on guard for the sake of good and safety

That's a good point.

Given the anti-furry moral panic in some circles, at some point even Akatsuki's cat ears might become contentious. However, if it ever gets as bad as that, it is likely that a lot of AAA games will be affected as well, and market forces will quickly lead to a solution.

PS:

The main drawback is that I think a lot of the punishment scenes would need to be replaced, too, not just the sex scenes, if it were to avoid all of the same pitfalls of being an adult game that the main version runs into.
Good point. I was thinking of keeping the punishment scenes in for simplicity, but they could clearly attract censorship as well. That's probably the single most expensive change. It could still be worth it, though. Especially if instead of just replacing the punishment scenes with other material you can find a way to add the new material to the original story in a way that improves it.

It would still mean going over existing parts of the story instead of putting all your time into advancing the plot, but that makes economic sense anyway as it increases the time that Cosy Cafe is unfinished and therefore creates significant revenue. You are one of the last authors anyone would accuse of milking their audience, so I think so long it doesn't lead to a long period without the story continuing, you should be safe and it should be a win-win move.
