Genuine question, why do people dislike sandbox games so?
Because its a waste of time, and sacrifices story for a fake "gameplay". I dont think clicking in a map/phone/whatever make it so much more gameplay than choosing an option, but sandbox games limits story because you cant link events, since you dont know the order they will be played.

Besides, its most often use is to artificially inflate the gameplay time by making the player do a lot of unneccesary clicks which means with the same amount of story and renders it takes more time for the player to "play"

I played them for years, untill i understood that and got fed up with them

Because it doesn't take hours and what you need to do is clearly stated in the dialogues. I hope this is the answer you want.:)
If dialogues clearly tell me what to do next, why make it a sandbox and not just make the game follow the story like a normal VN?

Its not really that i want any answer honestly. i gave hundreds of games the chance to show me a sandbox that isnt just a waste of time, only to be dissapointed every time. That ship has sailed, i dont start any new sandbox games now, and will never do.

The female models look good and the renders that are bright enough look good, but some of the renders are too dark, I don't like sandbox, just from reading your mother and Linda it feels like there is an incest patch missing, and besides the sandbox tag, there are at least 5 other tags that I don't like.

I love noir and dark graphic novels but I literally cannot see some of these renders. There's not much point in that unless it is genuinely helping the storyline.

Otherwise this looks great. I'm not a fan of Sandbox but I'm willing to give this one a go.

Uh everyone says something about the render brightness. Most likely my monitor's brightness settings are messed up. Thanks for the comment!

Good luck dev. Make the game how you want to make it. Don't mind all the whining about the sandbox. They are just burnt by too many bad ones and hoo boy there are some really terrible ones. But as long as you make it well, it shouldn't be an issue.

Well mostly because not everyone does sandbox right. Most Devs have made it so that you have no clue what to do next and you're just clicking everywhere waiting for something to trigger. As if that wasn't enough here comes the repeated events thing where you keep doing the grind for getting the same scene "x" number of times . Some Devs just use it to mask actual low content by including grind and making it repeatable which increases the playtime significantly.

None of this is said in regards to this particular game. I haven't even tried it yet(nice renders tho dev!).This is why sandbox is not liked in general.

Ah, thanks for this motivational comment. Even though I'm a new game developer, I try to make a game with as few problems as possible. My only concern is not being able to convey the story I want to people. :)

Yes the ones in the dark are too dark

And about sandbox, if there is no grind (hate it in a VN that I play for the story -and porn- and not the gameplay, I would play a real game) and if the map is just used to trigger next events, I'm ok with it even though I don't see the point of a sandbox in that case instead of a regular VN. Free roams are ok too (it's also tagged as sandbox though It's not imo)

Most of the sandbox games have no structure or quest system. most of the time, you are just left clicking on doors and people hoping for an event to trigger. Sometimes in some games the events even trigger out of order. Most of the sandbox games I've played are just pointless clicking simulators.

Renders look amazing.
Don't worry too much about the reactions to the sandbox tag. I get that many don't like sandbox games and I can see where they come from, nonetheless some of the most popular NSFW games are sandboxes. So if you have a good project and your coding is as good as your rendering skills, I'm thrilled to see what's coming next.
Good Luck!

I don't enjoy playing sandbox for hours either.
You might be right, I'll do brighter night renders.
So these are the only things that we can 'bitch' about right now, these and the voyeurism scene at the gas station, which IMHO, was pointless, voyeurism scenes are always pointless and also make the MC look like a creep, recording the 'live performance' doesn't help either. I mean, who the fuck spies on others when they have sex ??:WaitWhat: The rest looks sweet, the visuals are amazing.

You should be upfront about the kinks you want to add in future updates so everybody knows what they should expect to see in the game.

Best of luck with the project !!

Timestamps games are an example of "sandbox" done better than most. Relevant locations are highlighted blue on a map, and a cell phone gives helpful and accurate hints. Most locations only have a few places to navigate with mouse clicks. Also, there's no grind at all, and the sandbox element is mainly used to give the player a sense of anticipation of not knowing whats going to happen around the next bend. Click around the corner of house, and see a beautiful woman sunbathing topless in her back yard as an example. But... even with "sandbox" done well, like a Timestamps game, I suspect it would still play better as a traditional VN.

I don't get the generalizing hatred for sandboxes.
Yes, sandbox games can be implemented badly, but they can also work out awesome. If you simply hate *all* sandbox games, no matter how well it was implemented, then be glad it was stated in the tags, and move to the next game.

The problems with sandboxes are something developers should be aware of, or willing to listen to feedback regarding the sandbox elements. But at the same time, I do think players should either give it a chance, or shut the fuck up and move on. Same with NTR, same with Futa (which is something I personally hate). Be happy the developer was upfront about it and included it in the tags. Sometimes it's worthwhile to ask whether specific content is avoidable, because the description leaves room for interpretation whether it's a major part of the game or something on the side. Though I figure that'd be a bit of a pointless question for a sandbox game.

Anyway, good luck with your game! (y)

None of them are new, and i would bet a lot of money that those sandbox games that are successful are despite of being sandbox and not thanks to it, and they would be successful as a normal VN.

Of course, its counter factic, but its my opinion
