Not sure if it has changed or not but you could name and tag each person. You could make the one the mom the wife the sister and the daughter you could tag as daughter or sister and the MC could be the son brother or dad or you could pick something else.

I do understand at no point in any of the dialogue is her relationship to you referred to as anything other than the value entered at the start. When I played through the game it worked well and I didn't notice any inconsistencies.
