It depends on the result, but I tend to agree with you, Daughter for Dessert is a good example. There seems to be voice acting in the game and while I don't say that the girl is bad I'd still say it doesn't really work for the situation. Sound is pretty much the same, there's one scene where the MC jerks off and the sound just makes you laugh instead of anything else x'Dx'D
Hmmmm. Not in disagreement. I don’t think I’ve seen any game where the sound or animation made it better in the face of bad storytelling and renders. But when there is a animation done at the right time - a cherry on the top, so to speak - it can be great. Still, animation is something that can be improved in comparison with the other MDot elements.
I agree that story and general art quality are more important, but they have diminishing returns. You can promise to spend twice as long writing story, but you can't really promise to make it twice as good. Twice as long, maybe, but that's a lot less exciting (to me).

Mr. Dots did that because Patreon cracked down pretty hard on certain types of adult games, and when the game has the word Daughter in its name... there wasn't much of a fighting chance to keep the game on Patreon.

I agree completely. I have the sound turned off 99% of the time. Especially with porn games, but also with AAA "normal" games, except shooters etc where you need to hear someone sneaking up on you.
A bit of sexy moaning like in Nenad's Willy D can go a long way towards immersion, and adding a few royalty free background songs or UI sounds neither hurt the game nor the development time. But yeah, complete character voice-over or some kind of narrator are completely unnecessary!
