The head on the second girl looks a little bit off (maybe to big?) could be the ankle tho. other than that, they look very good, like some actual human beeings that don´t have the perfect model looks. I like them. the yellow backgroud bites my eyes tho. xD
Yeah, they are slightly stylized. Their heads and eyes are too big for their bodies. They all have a toon morph mixed in. Maybe I went too far with the second girl. You mean the short one, the second from the left, correct?

Another one from a game I’m working on. Title right now is Locked In. The basic concept is that COVID happens while you’re at college and your best female friend (who is also your best friend’s girlfriend) gets stuck and has to stay with you during quarantine. I've got the first chapter written/coded and I’m just working on renders.

This is the main female character.

Do you like the style?
How old do they look?
Any other criticism?
Not bad but I'd go with larger eyes (Large eyes are something we are hardwired to find beautiful if I remember rightly). the girl second from left looks a bit angry/evil because of the really inward sloping brows.
I think JPG is the best for VNs
It has pro's and cons. Because JPEG is a lossy format so you have more chance of (visible) artifacts. The amount the game will scale well is lessened (e.g. from a 1080 monitor to a 1440p monitor).
If you want to layer images in Ren'Py you can't use JPEG because the background can't be transparent.
On the plus side it's file size is quite small.
Most vn's i played had a lag when they switched to animation from render. 1-2 sec freeze. Any workaround for that?

Hdri test renders since we talking too much and have fewer pics now.

I know its not good quality and very lackluster.
I don't have any cut and dry solutions but I wouldn't be surprised if many animations have a reasonably large file size. keeping it down will maske it easier to load. You could also experiment if a different file type works better than another. For me OGV seems to work quite well. I use to convert my avi's to this file type. Again I don't really see a quality difference between the original and the converted file with a saving of 60% or so.

And let me pitch in with some extra art as well (First two images are twins Hannah and Ruby last two images are of Zoe):

Style's more realistic, which is a change. There's vague hints of people I've seen walking around in the real world.

And now I'm going to get harsh with one person's opinion, so your call on taking it or leaving it. I'll also preface that by saying I am an asshole.

So I learned that the HD add-ons definitely make a huge difference in the way the final image looks (the lines in the hands and feet look great). I let this one run for about 25 hours, just to see if I noticed any major differences going that long, but to be honest, I can't tell anything major between this image and as when it was about 2 hours through. Now time to start working more with lighting and see what kind of stuff I can come up with.

Seriously thanks for the criticism. IMO, the toon morph helps take them out of the uncanny valley by making them less real. Maybe like you said I need to push it further. What about the blonde one makes her look so old do you think? Is it her skin? She does have a lot of blemishes. Maybe I went too far with that. I'm aiming for early 20s.

So I can definitely see why not many games have dark scenes, they are a pain in the ass. I was originally trying to do a quick scene but then that turned into a full day of messing around learning spotlights and changing render settings. There is still some grainy bs but a lot of its gone now.
I feel like I am finally getting somewhere so here are some pics.

Maybe make lit scene and fake the darkness with postwork. It will be easy.
I definitely saw people using that method and the whole blue lighting used in movies. The only reason I didn't nuke the scene with light and then turn the brightness down in render settings is because it makes the scene bland or fake night looking which defeats the whole point. Ill def look up more ways next time I use a dark scene.

Still experimenting with the girl, and the images.
She's taller now, about 1.6m (5'4").
(For 18 years of age, that's a little under the 50% percentile, but very much in line with a real teenager's height. Age is, of course, rather nebulous.)

I also read a lot of romance novels, so this is a romance novel kind of look, I guess.
