How to explain it, I guess I'm more interested in seeing people create their own characters instead of remaking and remixing pre-established characters. Like I can't stand parody games that use popular models like Tifa from FF7 or Dragonball Z characters. It's not hard to mix different models at different %s to make your own character. I wanna see artists make their own stories and situations. It takes a lot for me to make fanart and most of the time I end up hating it.

That's why I love all of XestyModels 's work, the girls might not be the most sexy or traditionally beautiful, but they are his and they are unique.
I think the more innovations and stylistic tweaks an artist makes to a PEC(Pre Existing Character), the more interesting the work becomes.
I'd prefer "homage" characters who are clearly influenced by, say, Wonder Woman, or Lara Croft, or Alcina Dimitrescu, but are their own characters and have differences from the original.

I’m the same, not a fan of fan art. I love Isabella from BaD. I don’t want to render her, there’s already someone doing it better. Honestly I’m not a huge fan of even using stock Daz models. Like you said, mixing is easy even if you’re not naturally creative.

I mean, I can appreciate the technical merits of a render with rehashed characters, but I don’t understand why anyone would not want to strive for originality. Aside from technical practice of course.

I see it more like actors and actresses playing in other films. Once you have adequately recreated a character, that preset can be used to your own desire.

The model I'm currently using is also Fan Art but I have her a bit downtoned compared to the original since I like a more realistic physique.

Exactly!!!! Like Take Mr. Vargas for instance. He's CRAZY talented, but Imagine if he put that skill towards making his own original characters? He could make a top-tier game TODAY! But idk his life or his agenda when it comes to art ...

I don't agree. Like I don't want to see Lara Croft fucking Superman, or Dante fucking Sailor Moon. Just make your own characters and Superheroes and put them in your stories. There are unlimited assets to make whatever original character you want to make.

This is Punch Rabbit, and Original, Animal-themed Superhero with Superspeed.

You may not, but others maybe?
For some people it's maybe just the chance to make those renders of characters that they like, like a commission but selfmade.
There is a reason why so many games have Fan Art Threads!
I for one, like to use premade characters from Games or know the basic assetts to recreater whatever i or others desire, but i also do create my own characters.
As long as there is a demand for something it will be done.
And also, a lot of people starting with that premade stuff and carry over to selfmade later on. For me it was easier to "play" with something that already existed and see/learn with the changes i made.

In the End.. it's "To Each, their own"

Cool character that Punch Rabbit congrats on that. And I do agree with you to a degree. The examples you mention are established in a certain story and theme with drawn out backstories and those appeal less to me if they are meant to be Lara Croft and Superman. But the Caroline model I recreated isn't really established as an icon like Lara or Supes there isn't much backstory to that character to begin with so that potentially opens more possibilities. And in my case I merely make pinups with a model I really like. There isn't much story in my creations (so far) and since I'm still learning the ins and outs of Daz I don't want to bother with creating a unique model just yet. I've only been using DS for little over three months. And a really nice model I like is for now very good to learn with. I do intend to create my own model at some point but for now I'm fine with what I have. Caroline Render 02b.jpg

I'm determined to create my own characters and my own Patreon page at some point. I think there are people who still don't know about it but I've been on Palmer's Love-Joint team for a while now and I'm currently working on our new game. For this reason, I cannot do fan art creations as actively as before.

I somehow agree with what XestyModels said. After all, if you can't create a character properly and correctly, you're doing a bad job. For this reason and my limited time, I'm no longer recreating the characters. All my recent works has been done using original models created by developers.

I see it more a a shitty lookalike in a bad porn parody. Even with the same model it’s never the same because it still lacks the touch of the creator.
