Why do you usually dislike Fan Art?
Many of us make that but thats usually just using characters from games or comics to create own scenes.
How to explain it, I guess I'm more interested in seeing people create their own characters instead of remaking and remixing pre-established characters. Like I can't stand parody games that use popular models like Tifa from FF7 or Dragonball Z characters. It's not hard to mix different models at different %s to make your own character. I wanna see artists make their own stories and situations. It takes a lot for me to make fanart and most of the time I end up hating it.

Lucifer from Helltaker, She-Hulk, Starfire from Teen Titans

That's why I love all of XestyModels 's work, the girls might not be the most sexy or traditionally beautiful, but they are his and they are unique.

I think the more innovations and stylistic tweaks an artist makes to a PEC(Pre Existing Character), the more interesting the work becomes.
I'd prefer "homage" characters who are clearly influenced by, say, Wonder Woman, or Lara Croft, or Alcina Dimitrescu, but are their own characters and have differences from the original.

I’m the same, not a fan of fan art. I love Isabella from BaD. I don’t want to render her, there’s already someone doing it better. Honestly I’m not a huge fan of even using stock Daz models. Like you said, mixing is easy even if you’re not naturally creative.

I mean, I can appreciate the technical merits of a render with rehashed characters, but I don’t understand why anyone would not want to strive for originality. Aside from technical practice of course.

I see it more like actors and actresses playing in other films. Once you have adequately recreated a character, that preset can be used to your own desire.

The model I'm currently using is also Fan Art but I have her a bit downtoned compared to the original since I like a more realistic physique.
