That's what I assumed it was seeing as it has a low version number indicating it's still rather new. I have to say that you have my interest. I do have a few minor gripes but those are mostly personal preference type things (such as no proper progress/content/path/event end bar/notifications, no volume sliders/control except on/off, etc). For others, see below. The radio has been taken out of the default inventory. It can be bought from lessco. Once it is in Jakes inventory it can be listened to.
The links on the OP have now been updated with a working version. I've tested it and all is working.
I do ask people to remember that Deeper is in early alpha, I'm a one man operation and have only been working on it for 3 months in my free time. Once i am certain that the engine is solid i can start focusing on adding more content in each update but at the moment my priority is with mechanics so i can only add a few scenes each update
1) I agree (and 2nd this idea) with this as it would be nice to be able to adjust volume levels personally (it's way too loud for me). Temporary fix is that you can open your volume mixer and either lower or just mute the entire application yourself (though slightly annoying to do).Works fine after the hotfix. There's a couple of things that this game DESPERATELY needs fixed, though...
1) Add a mute everything button or just go back to the classic RenPy sliders in the menu. I don't want to have to toggle music in each and every location. I just don't want this thing to make any sounds at all.
2) The 'h' key or middle mouse button currently only hide the responses available instead of the whole conversation bar.
3) Rollback doesn't seem to work. Scroll-wheel does nothing.
4) The beginning of the game is super confusing. You really should think about changing that as that's the most important part of any game - you either get a player hooked right there and then or you risk losing a player. Right now, after some walls of text about how bad the situation is, the player lands in an empty hotel room with NOTHING to do but wait. Wait by manually clicking the button. Not only do we have to wait until we go to sleep, but then some, until an event auto-triggers.
What's the point of that? Either just start the game when Laura comes in to the motel or add something to do for the players before that. Some interaction with the sister would be nice. Right now I don't really care for that character at all, I don't know her at all. I saw her in a couple of renders but had zero interaction so far. Considering half the game revolves around helping/curing her, it seems like a rather large oversight.
5) Why is "just looking around (do nothing)" even an option? What does that accomplish or what's the design idea behind it?
6) The renders seem rather dark, especially the ones during evening or night.
7) The Mall has some locations (like the "InstaHo Lingerie") that are marked, highlight on mouse-over, but don't do anything. This makes it seem like they're bugged. If you want to set up placeholders for future content (like the High Street which seems to be completely pointless at this moment) add a disclaimer.
Any game shouldn't be about the player desperately looking for content, the content should come at the player. Especially in this type of a game where the playerbase has been pretty much conditioned to think that stuff will get unlocked at some point.
EDIT
8) Why give us seeds if gardening requires at least $140 of accessories before we can do anything!?
2) I agree (and 2nd this idea) that the entire HUD should be hidden with the h/middle mouse key, however I believe that this is a relatively new dev and has not yet learned how to do that.
3) You are told in the intro (literally first 2-3 minutes of the game) that rollback after choices are DISABLED and that you can NOT rollback. It is an intentional decision on the part of the developer........ However, since we are similar in this (I HATE not having rollback personally), I suggest grabbing the UnRen.bat file (located here:
You must be registered to see the links
), drop it into the game's root directory, run it, and select option 6 (I also often enable the console and dev menu which is option 3). Rollback works great after enabling it with the UnRen.bat file.4) I agree with the lack of ability/options to do anything except waiting then sleeping followed by more waiting. The game does tell you that she will be visiting shortly and the game is still extremely early in alpha development and thus there may be options for interactions later when more proper content is added. With that said, I definitely agree with it just "skipping" straight to the visit event rather having to wait and wait, being completely confused until then.
5) I believe it's simply a place-holder mechanic right now... Again, the game is still extremely early in development (extremely early alpha) so there's not much content at all. I have a feeling that the look around mechanic will actually lead to events in the future (at least mini-events such as watching mom as she's working/cleaning, things with sis, etc and could potentially lead to more), however it is too early in development so do yourself and the dev a favor and lower your expectations a bit. This is shaping up to be a very large sandbox type game with a good (but dark) story, but he has to flesh out some of his mechanics and fix/deal with bugs until he can focus on adding content. You complaining about a mechanic like this at this point in the build of the game is like complaining that your burger is still raw even though it only started cooking 2 minutes ago.
6) I agree on the night renders, but only just barely. They do seem a little overly dark (but then again, it IS supposed to be NIGHT soooo... unless you have perfect night-vision, it wouldn't make sense that you could see that clearly anyway) but I haven't noticed any others being that dark (morning/day/evening). The only time the Night renders would be too dark is if there's something you need to be able to see (such as an item, event/etc) then it might be a little too dark, but otherwise I don't see any real issue with it at it's current levels.
7) I agree that a place-holder or pop-up message saying something like "not available in current build" or similar would be best. At first I thought it might be a bug/glitch as well but then wondered if it would "unlock" with more progress but it never did. So some kind of warning/notice/etc would be best in this case.
8)...... Really? That's not an issue with the game at all but rather with your expectations and personal preferences (or possibly ignorance of the prices of various things) .... Do you know how much a packet of seeds cost and how much tools for farming costs? Let me clue you in: Seeds are incredibly cheap while tools are very expensive, so if you went out right now to buy seeds and tools to start a farm or garden, you'd find it really easy/cheap to get the seeds but not the tools. The only issue I would have with this is the grind to get enough money and thus the only request I would have is to either increase what you can get via pool cleaning by a little (like another 5 bucks or so) or reduce the cost of the tools a little (such as down to 100), but that's nothing more than my personal preference and thus is unimportant.
Yeah, I can see that being an issue in general but would that really explain why it works fine when the archive.rpa has been extracted vs when it hasn't? Genuinely asking because I don't know that much about ren'py(/python) coding/programming.It's been the same since v0.01, spelling mistakes and variable errors in the .rpy files.
