Aye. The game is, in part, a response to the deteriorating state of the world, and the UK in particular, so it's hard to avoid reminders. To forget would be to go mad.
It is funny when I introduced this game to afew friends who aren't British and they were boggled at the idea you could get in trouble for using pepper spray in self-defence and thought it surely would've been made up.

So... yeah I rather like the dark scrambling to survive helplessness DoL gives us. If I want a decidedly happy feel I'll play something else.
And I do play something else when I want that. DoL is for one kind of mood, if I'm looking for wholesome joy I'll pick up Our Life Beginnings & Always or its sequel, Our Life Now & Forever. In my opinion, both are really effective eye bleach.

Ive always hated how people cant grasp the idea that a bittersweet or even dark ending cant be good in its own right. Everything has to have some kind of shitty deus ex machina to swoop in and save everyone or have absolutely stupid plot armor or something and its just really annoying. Sometimes a piece of media makes you feel like shit after finishing it and that is the point of some media which makes it entertaining in its own right. Trying to white wash everything into some kind of happily ever after cop out ending is just silly. Such a large portion of media already has some lame cop out at the end that you can basically assume that whatever you are reading watching or playing is going to have one which just means that 80% of the time you can just assume thats how its going to end and be right. I would rather have the option of a bad ending or at least a bitter one open instead of just watching something trying to guess what kind of dumb bullshit they are going to pull out of their ass to make a happy end.

I strongly agree. I remember reading a story a few months ago that was good up until the ending, then wrote a long post with my ideas for fixing said ending. I explicitly remember saying that I like GOOD endings, and good doesn't always equal happy. That the author actually introduced a plot hole just for their have a cake and eat it too ending. Can't stand that stuff. I mean, I love happy endings, but not at the cost of the story's quality. Some creators understand that. I had no complaints about how Killing Stalking was handled, and I currently have no complaints about DoL.

Some of us like hot and spicy curry, some like sweet and sour pork and others like french fries and burgers and even some like bitter food...
If you hate tea, grab some colas or :coffee:
Be nice, please dont go into a pizza shop and order ramen, then tell the customers who are eating there that the pizza here taste like :poop:
I give my nephews disney cartoons for happy endings... but kids these days, they their taste are different...sigh...
DOL is okay, but it does take me some time to get used to it... and have fun.

You guys disregarded my point that the player already produces an 'happy ending' of sorts, and it already has many of the grimdark qualities you desire. I mean, how is it easy to pay off Bailey? By prostituting yourself. Selling your body. Saying farewell to the innocent self and indulging in lewdity (pun intended). The closure I'd like to have is less a 'disney style' happy ending and more of a 'stop bothering me with this crap'-button. I can only repeat myself, it IS possible to stabilize things like Bailey or (when I ran into this for the first time, I quit playing for two years) the Farm raids. I don't know if this has changed since, but those farm raids used to be so horrible, you could do everything to get and keep the threat level at a minimum, but the farm would be raided and burnt down regardless, it wasn't just punishing, it also didn't make any sense.
That's what I'd like to have, the ability to get rid of annoying mechanics/characters. The high, dark price you have to pay is already implemented, and I'm not asking for the game to change Robin so he pays YOUR rent instead while you tan at the lake.

I'm surprised no-one's ever made a get-rid-of-Bailey-permanently mod yet, considering how many users have wanted it over the years.
I still remember that during my first couple weeks (maybe a month) of playing DoL I eventually got so annoyed by it that I fired up Notepad++ and edited the amount Bailey asks for to...I even forget what the value was, but the fully ramped up + Robin amount was at 20$ or something like that. And now that my "moneymaking" time was freed up, I kept playing around to familiarize myself with the game. After maybe a couple more months I took those training wheels off.

is there a mod that makes the character look more like an adult, that's the chief complaint i have with the game
Easiest method I know of is to use one of the image mods from the , maybe Goose+Mysterious, since it's one of the few that changes the "battle" images? DoLP does change the mechanics of the game, but OTOH it's more straightforward than going through the process of changing the images yourself.

Also, I know someone made a post with a comparison of the mod packs but I can't seem to find it via the search function..

Technically there is a way to get rid of Bailey but only in DOLPlus, and it's pretty much just: "Get rich and deposit debt payment to X amount" ― where I deposited enough so that Bailey fucks off for like an entire year, with Robin's part of the debt included!

It's just so much grinding. Sub-optimally I finished that grind in like 4 IRL days.

Setup farms, fertilize crops, harvest only mysterious plants and then sell it to the factory―buying farm upgrades and factory upgrades whenever you can. ―Definitely auto-irrigate each of the crops as it makes your life much easier, buy a tractor to make planting much faster, and maybe listen to a fun podcast while doing all this grinding.

Otherwise I see why there's still no "Remove Bailey" option, cause Bailey's still a central figure in the story and getting rid of them removes a big part of the conflict―bringing down interest.

And the game did become a lot less interesting when I don't see his mug around. If I build up enough positive reputation to where nobody messes with me? I'm effectively a normal citizen! I just get to live in this weird town that gets touchy with everyone else―apart from a few certain figures―with the main point being that if I want things to get interesting?

I gotta bash a hammer into my PC's skull and tell them: "You gotta start fucking around man, you're too untouchable for this world."

Can someone help me about what to do after 'betraying' Robin for the popcorn guy after I told him to sell beverages...?

Btw...
You can play the modded ones using Joiplay on Android...

My save was bricked after coming back to the game. I had a majority of these unlocked. Game woudlnt load properly or export since i had played before the changes to the Browser object, the isMobile checks crash and refuse to load. Anyways I had to do some shit and in the process lost all my unlocks. So i spent some time figuring out how to get mine back and ended up with all of the feats able to be added via console. So here y'all go.

i made it so i could trigger a non-con encounter with bailey by goin to his office and clicking an option i added and after beating him (pepper spray ftw) i set a value to true and in the event where bailey comes to get the rent i put an if-clause that if that value is true, the rent collection event just doesnt trigger.
in a later version i simply devided the values by 10 :KEK:
