Without embracing the allmighty Paywall i don't think you can.is there some way to get a copy of the latest version even with the password censorship?

And that's a healthy development method. I know everyone wants to get some money for their time, it's understandable and of course fair but closing your product behind a paywall with such a stupid way of authentication just to make sure no one wanna try to break it, is just stupid. There are so many Indie games devs which creates such a great games for FREE with a lot of content, great story and so on, some of them wants you to pay very cheap price once, now that's what i call a great development. As I said, exclusively Patreon. If you want it, for the 5 minutes of fap content, you'll have to sign up to Patreon to get it. I'm more of the type of pay once, and support with feedback, bug reports, etc... the way most game development projects work. As a developer myself, I find that feedback is often more valuable than the $15 I might charge them to buy it. At least at this point in development. But again, I don't do Patreon, because I don't believe in Patreon exclusivity. I also release all my builds for free without DRM. When it comes time for releasing it, I'll package the paid version with some extra features and conveniences that the free version won't have, so players of mine will get extra bang for their buck that want to support me.
But each to their own.
so the password thing is pointless because nobody is leaking the game anyway to people who haven't paid for it?Without embracing the allmighty Paywall i don't think you can.
You said that if you lack the password most of the content is disabled, so I interpreted that to mean that it was possible to get the current versions of the game somehow, but it wouldn't work properly without the password. As I said, exclusively Patreon. From what I'm gathering, the paywall to download the game is enough to prevent access, and honestly I can't think of a way to say that it's unethical to restrict access to downloads to a game you've made which doesn't violate a persons rights to privacy. So that's a bit annoying, but not something I'll rail against. What offends me is the idea that he deliberately breaks the game even after a person has obtained it. Once something is in my computer I'll do what I damn well please with it, and trying to prevent that tends to involve some pretty serious malware. And that's a healthy development method. You can actually even back this out with streaming/creating content. If you create an YouTube channel or a twitch channel just to make some money, just stop... You have to sacrifice something (in this case time to create something from scratch) to get something and people will come, many many of them just to support you and give you feedback.
You're right that I'm painting a simplified picture of patronage, although I feel your description accentuates negative historical facts which aren't actually salient to the general concept. I'm not actually endorsing or defending patreon so much as I'm pointing out that it's a different relationship with different considerations, although I do think the general idea of democratization of patronage is a positive.Basically yes.
Actually traditional patronage was more like: "You give me something I want, and I pay your living expenses directly (ie no money is given to the artist directly). The moment you stop giving me good stuff, I stop paying for things and you can bugger off or maybe I'll just kill you." At least that was the case with stone sculptors, actors, musicians, jesters, cooks, in medieval and renaissance times. So the patron basically ran their life entirely, saying what they could or couldn't do, and the moment they were no longer productive, they cut them loose immediately. Or executed them if they did a really bad production. Most people would call this form of patronage, "slavery", because the artist had no real control over their lives and were completely at the mercy of their patrons for everything.
In some ways, modern day Patreon is the same thing. If you don't do what your patrons want you to do, in the time they want it and the productivity they want, you lose your funding and are forced to find some other means to support yourself. You typically have to do things to appease your Patrons, such as exclusivity, special perks, and added value so that they continue to offer their money. It is actually a really bad system, if you take the time to think about it as, you do not have any real control over your own life and it is now dedicated to producing something, otherwise you are back to the 40 hr grind that you were probably doing before Patreon.
Well actually, no you aren't allowed to do whatever you please with something once it is on your machine. Licensing agreements allow you to use it on your machine, and only your machine. Its like music purchases; you can download it for personal use, but you cannot use it in a commercial setting or create mixtapes with it, as that is an illegal reproduction. Take the time to read one of those game licenses you always click "agree" to to play the game, and it will say about as much in it.
You are ignoring the facts of the matter, or maybe just unaware of them. If the feds ask my isp for my internet history they'll say that other than the fact that I'm connecting to some data center in Bucharest owned by a company with an obscene name, they don't know what I'm doing. If you couldn't find anything about deleting your browser history being a felony, you must really suck at searching the internet.Hey, if you don't like the facts then don't pay attention to them. No one said you had to agree with the facts. The facts are just that, factual information. Traditionally and historically, patronage is closer to slavery than it is to an employment contract, where the person employed has rights. Patronage doesn't usually work that way, as there is no government enforcement of rights, like there is for employment.
I don't know where you got your information, but I tried googling all those things and I got nothing. I don't see anywhere, that deleting browser cookies is a felony. I don't see anywhere that deleting browser history is a felony either. If the police wanted to figure out what you were doing, they'd ask your internet service provider for a list of all the stuff you visited, if it was that important to them (Yes your ISP keeps track of what you do on their internet service; their service, their rules. Don't like that? Get a VPN).
I've seen nowhere that deleting a computer virus is a felony. It is a felony to create them and knowingly distribute them, but I haven't found anything factual about deleting them.
Hey, do want you want with your machine. You just don't get to complain, when someone arrests you for doing something illegal. I'm just pointing out how game licensing works. Again, if you don't like the facts, ignore them. But you also don't get to complain when something bad happens either.
And this is what pisses me off and why I pirate. I'll gladly support a game that has something to offer, either content or clear dev motivation and goals that align to what I want. I learned this with Euromancer who hid everything behind the paywall, even fucking text updates and plans. There was no transparency, goals that never got met, and then bailed the game for another completely different game without any warning. I'm getting vibes like that here, the paywall here is over $10 for anything meaningful. After 6 months you are already into AAA gaming prices, and if you stop payments after that, are you going to get a game, anymore updates? Nope. $5 maybe, but when you start asking for to much for something that is pretty much in Alpha territory, you're a complete turnoff to a large player/supporter base. IMO its better to keep your price down, reach out to a larger population of people. Get your name out through word of mouth since that is the best form of advertisement and let your work do the talking to more people. Hell.. if you make decent goddamn content, pirates will do the work for you and get your name out there. If its worth supporting, WE WILL SUPPORT IT. But alienating us.. just makes us determined to offer no help and even hinder by resenting support to those devs that go down that path. But enough of my rant. I honestly hope this game goes good places. At the least I looks promising...i ended up paying for the current copy because i was sick of waiting. There isnt really much there, although what is there is pretty well done imo. Your not missing out on much. What was in the trailer for the newest version is all that there really is in the current game.
could'nt have said it better myselfJesus fucking Christ, WE GET IT!
You people want something thats a lot of work at best for next to no costs for you, while forgetting that the people who do the work have a live, maybe even a Job they need to take care of first. Think about that before crying about slow updates, not getting 20+ changes per update and how he is trying to secure funding for the project (what is the thing he needs the most).
You are just here because you saw something that got your dick semi hard and (after the Dev extendet an olive branch in the shape of a newer, but not up-todate free public release) now you are calling him a money hungry ass that does not listen to what people are posting.
This thread went from people asking him about his work, giving and recieving tips and tricks to people demanding for giving nothing in return and calling him stuff within 2 weeks. TWO FUCKING WEEKS! And guess what, most of the people demanding shit never even posted anything in this thread until 2 weeks ago but are demandig like he owes them something making people think this is some cheap cash grap. And then they thank you for shit talking this game like you saved their money by preventing them from downloading the FREE Demo.
Shame on you!
And the guys going "I pirate a game and if its good i will support it", stop lying to us and first and foremost yourself. You are not supporting him by going "Hey look at this cool game, by the way here is it for free", you are disrespecting his work, skills, the money he put into the project and dreams.
And now a message to the Dev:
Hey mate,
how's it going? I got to say, i really like your work.
I played the Demo and i got to say, for beeing what it is, i can see what your dream for this one is. Not that many Games out there that are paying that much atention to what a bullet dose to a body and the effects of it. Honestly if you came up with a good story and a good level design you could throw out all the porn and it might even be a better game (or at least better recieved by the mainstream gaming media). But thats your choice to make and no one shoud take that away from you.
After reading the stuff that has been postet the last few days, i get why you have not posted a responce yet. Honestly, if it where me, I probably would not even post a updated Public release, seeing how ungrateful some people here are.
Any way, I just decided that I will become one of your patreons and fond this till its done, sadly not on the highest tier, but still up there.
And you can hold me to one thing: No one will get a thing about the game from me if it has not been made public by you.
Keep up the good work and let the people talk shit, the are just jealous.
Sincerely yours
RisenKill

the cookie thing has a few legal arguments on each side, whether you win or lose the case though, you'll be out a shitload of money and time and be ruined, so it's effectively illegal if anyone decides to go after you.

You must be registered to see the links
There are big time lawyers who will seriously argue that it's illegal, and most of the arguments that it isn't illegal would seem to require getting a judge who isn't retarded, which seems like a bad bet to take with a 5 year prison sentence on the line.
off the top of my head the first thing I think of when I think of times it's a felony to delete a virus: the sony rootkit
You must be registered to see the links
strictly speaking as long as you copyright a virus and dress it up as copy protection, it's technically illegal to circumvent/remove it.
I don't know why you're harping on the historical shit about patronage, it's literally irrelevant to the current discussion. It's a different relationship, that's all I'm saying.
